Multiple accounts for Mercada?

I tried making another account with mercada to get that $100 off 20% new customer thing, but they somehow they knew I was already a customer even with a different cc and email? Anyone have this problem?

Cookies and IP address? maybe those are part of the puzzle. Why do that though?

The check the credit cards, to see if they aleady have them in the system. The they check your address. I think ya can only have 2 account with the same address.

I know they match the billing address to determine if you're an existing user. They don't do it with cookies. Log on to your original account and change the address (make something up if you don't intend to use it again.) Then sign up as a new user. It works for me, but I use a different credit card just in case.

they make it nearly impossible to have more than one account. anyway, i got a camcorder for $200 last year using my mercata $$ which at the time counted 50% as opposed to 20%

I tried establishing a new account because the Mercata$ i got back in July expired before I used them. I used a different email, different credit card, but same address and they called me on it. I e-mailed their fraud department to see if they will give them to me anyway. They sent a pretty quick reply saying no, but I emailed again and I'm hoping for a little more luck this time. I'll keep you posted.

You just gotta make sure you change the address on your current account before you try to create a new account. I've done it three times - worked every time.

Can't you just tell them to close/cancel your account and get rid of any records they have on you. Tell them that you don't want them to keep any info on you that they may be able to sell to advertisers. Then just resign for a new account. Is this possible?

Well, I registered last year w/ mercata at a different address....

I moved, and used my new address, cc, (but maybe same e-mail? don't remember)

and they denied me =(

Have them delete all records of you? Haha... that's like going to the Federal building and having them delete everything on you when you leave the country.

They will keep the info (they won't sell it) for purposes of archiving the transaction.

Standard practice.

Thanks for the idea, kb0wwp! I changed the addess information on the old account and BINGO, I was able to create a new account with 100 Mercata$$ in it right away. Saved me $50 on a CD player and VCR.

Since you can change all your information, INCLUDING email and credit card, you could probably just sign up with bogus info, get your Mercata$$, and then input your real info.

Oh, I also deleted the mercata.com cookies before registering for a new account. Better safe than sorry.
