Well they finally released the NDA on the game and all the beta testers are pouring out info. It comes out June 26th and I just wanted to see if anyone was interested in this game. I am gonna give it a try and see if I like it. It has potentional but looks to be a bit different than most MMORPG's.

Anyways if anyone else is playing we should meet up in game when it finally comes out.

It seems like a cool game, but the buy in price is a little too steep for me.

Maybe if the price comes down a bit and subscription gets a little cheaper, then maybe I'll check it out.

Sweet! Im going to try to grab a copy tomorrow, if anyone else is going to play, lets pick a server and start from there...

I want to be a jedi (like everyone else), but heard if you die thats it, and it takes tons of time and dedication.

Maybe a Bounty Hunter will do.

I'm waiting for a couple of reviews and some word of mouth. I've been burned with other mmorpgs so I'm going to take a more passive approach this time. Maybe wait to after the first patch to see if everything goes to hell.

lol What happened in Shadowbane was hilarious. Guys teleporting mobs into the middle of towns or something. Having the mobs run amock at regen spots was funny. Have they prosecuted the offenders yet?

:heh:

I couldn't believe the mass chaos that was. When I read that wired article about it I forwarded that to a few other MMORPG players and a couple game developers I know - apparently they got a lot of evidence and know who it was. Something will be coming very soon.

For some reason I think I would play this even if it was Everquest with Star Wars skins.. for atleast a little while.. The bad thing about everquest is the repeatativeness.. which they claim star wars is getting rid of (the fighting in one spot til this level.. etc etc) .. Part .. so.. I guess we will see

Just gotta finish work here then give it a try.

I havent picked a server but if Blitz and Thesifer are gonna play we should all meet up on the same server.

10 servers at launch, 20 total. 10 chars per account.

The servers are down atm as they are working on an oracle problem or bug...

From what I played, I had more fun in the 20 mins runing around mos isly (cant spell it) than I had beta testing and playing DAoC + Shadowbane.

Right after I played the tutorial (suggest you do), I spawned and ran into the cantina... SOO COOL! They had the little alien guys playing music and dancing, guys drinking, at the bar, etc etc. And then I began to venture around town and heard blaster fire. Of course I ran to see what was happening! A THIEF! He was runing away as 4 people + me began to fire at him as he stole from Jabba the hut (said on his name he did so), and it was a thrill. Blaster fire blazing, lasers flying everywhere! Cant wait till I try out the pvp...

I am impressed thus far, and cant wait till the servers come up again. (probly wont happen till tomorrow)

but remember, everquest had login problems for 2 weeks, and shadowbane..ugh dont go there.

At least we got to play a little today, or I did...

ha yeah pretty much the same story for me blitz. I got on, ran around and saw the town and some guys shotting animals. It all looked really cool and I was having fun but now the servers are down.

Oracle database problem from what I have read. Oh well I'll head off to bed and maybe sneak some playing in at work.. heh

I'm on Lowca by the way, from what I can tell it is an "unofficial North East Coast English Server"

Funny, I've read nothing but bad things at AT etc. Really buggy and almost impossible for someone to level to Jedi (good IMHO). Frys has it for I think $10 off tomorrow but will have to check.

I'm against paying a monthly but I'd like to try this out.

Oh - this isn't very good news...

Linkage (http://content.guru3d.com/article.php?cat=gamereviews&id=49)

Star Wars Galaxies (referred to as SWG from here on out) is a culmination of false hope, empty promises, and over hyped delusions of grandeur. What could have amounted to a fantastic world in where you can take the role of a hero in the Star Wars Universe that a lot of us have grown to love through the old movies, or even the new; turns out to be an utterly rushed disappointing disaster of epic scale in the MMOG genre that leaves the player paying $14.99 a month for the developers to finish the game they had hyped oh so many years ago. As far as I am concerned, this title will go down in history as the worst MMOG launch ever known to mankind. And unfortunately, it takes a verifiable and powerful Star Wars license down right with it. Read on, and you will see what makes this game the pure disappointment it has become. Not only from a game systems stand point, but also from a plethora of bugs, and lack of content from a rushed release.

....
....
....

In conclusion, Star Wars Galaxies could have been a fantastic game if led by the right company. Sony Online Entertainment has been riding the coat tails of success from a game they never created. EverQuest. Other than that, about the only thing they have shown is that they want to continue charging people monthly fees to finish what should have already been finished when they bought the game. Lucasarts didn't help any with this one, for at the very least they could have waited until the server stability issues died down before announcing a full release. All in all, what could have been a great title leaves anyone wanting a Star Wars Universe to partake in feeling utterly let down, empty handed, and out $50.00. This will go down in history as one of the most over hyped and under delivered titles in gaming -- and will most likely put the final nail in the coffin for Sony Online Entertainment with regards to it's customer base, which will undoubtedly hurt future sales in anything else software related. If you still have an inclination to pick this up, wait for 6 months and let them get in the features they promised to make the game even remotely exciting. For the love of the gaming community itself, it's time people started talking with their wallets and stopped giving the impression that releasing software this horrid -- is acceptable to the gaming public because of a successful movie license. You have seen other Star Wars games fail, and you have seen others succeed. I guarantee you, this one has now surpassed Force Commander in the bottom of the pile for Star Wars titles. Stay far away if you value gaming, value the community, and value your money. Let Lucasarts and SOE finish this on their own dollars before they start nickle and diming you to death to actually create the game for you as you pay.

I've never heard of a good launch for any of these crap-online games. There are always server issues (usually crap bandwidth), a pleothra of bugs (pffft, of course thise isn't limited to the online games, just PC games in general) and a host of other problems. The only reason evercrap did so good in the beginning was there weren't many people playing, so they could work the shizzle out before it became a problem.

As a game reviewer for G|A?, I have to say, that is the most pathetic piece of ^&*( that I have ever read!...

First off, let me tell all of you, that by what he marks in his words, I take it that he did not play the beta. Second, if he did not, how can he write a solid stated review with the game being active in less than a week? Also, just recently, the professions have been popping up here and there...so how could he have even master'd his main class, and advance already? He is one of thee worst reviewers ever, and loves to critisize what he has no knowledge about. I assume from what I have read, that mostlikely he read other reviews, and wrote a piece of scrap and posted it!

Here are my comments on his review:
1."Now imagine the server telling you that in order to be able to get the meal you saw on the menu, you'll have to pay your membership fee for 6 months"

Blitz- This has no relation what so ever with the game, as you dont have to pay a six month fee, not even a first month, to play the game!(you get one free month of play, if you dont like it, cancel your first payment and return the game) They offer what you see and that is what you get! If you visit their main site, they will explain what they are developing, and implement within a month or so, including veichles and mounts.

Ask me why later? Think about it...Will you be able to afford a land speeder within a week or so of gameplay? I doubt it! Only if you did deliver missions or ran a full group hunting something in endor 24/7. Even if the veichles, city archtec, etc etc where implemented, NO ONE COULD AFFORD IT!

2."The Star Wars universe that I have come to know and love is full of life."

Blitz- From the rest of that paragraph and so on, I take it that he explored Tatooine, as mostly everyone started at that planet. What is Tatooine? A desert planet? Ohh, so that would explain the barren lands, not many enemies to fight but near and around cities and paths to the cities?... what a fool! This game has everything from Cantina's to Space ports, and many more things that he probly failed to see. In Mos Eisly, the cantina has the aliens from the movie, playing along with local (players) dancing to the music, or adding their own touch to the musical piece(you can be a musician too!). This is one example of why this game is actually better than UO,AO,AC,EQ,DAoC,and SB.

3."As you travel around, one of the first things you will be able to do is a mission."

Blitz- I totally asume that this pathetic reviewer did not do any missions at all...really I think that. Why? Read the following

--"Even if your mission isn't bugged (Which up to this point I would venture with my trial and error would be about 30% of them"

Blitz- I never encountered such an error, neither have any of my friends, or any testers that I have talked to, nor any other player that I have spoken to...30% is a high percent, but with say 10 people I interact with daily, none have experienced this at all!

--"I can easily put my character on auto run, take a shower, watch an old Twilight Zone rerun, and make lunch."

Blitz- I would love to witness this! I would pay you 50 bucks right now on the spot to see this! YOU CANT DO THIS PERIOD! IF you set auto-run and left, you would find your self incap'd (knocked out for whom dont know or havn't played yet), or dead! There are many mobs (monsters) out and about that are numerous that will aggro, and slay you on site as you run. I always find myself moving from side to side to avoid these creatures and not be hit by them! This kid is a lamer and hasn't even done a mission!

--"But that doesn't mean anything will be there. "

Blitz- Yes this is partly true, if there are other groups who kill your mission objective, then it wont be there..but when ever this happens for me, I get the faction points, or credits as if I have done the job..so it is more helpful that non. (again, he probly didnt play at all :heh: )

--"It wouldn't be entirely bad if it didn't take literally 30-45 minutes to get to the destination in the first place."

Blitz- Again he didnt play it, NO Delivery mission lasts 30-45 min's long. If you ran from Bestine to Wayfar on Tatooine (anyone who plays knows this), it takes aprox. 10 minutes. That is about 1/4 of the maps distance with city relation in mind. If you are runing to a place with no shuttle port like taike or wayfar, it wouldnt take more than a max of 20 I would say as I have done many! Most of the time tho, in contrary, the missions are delivered into another city WITH a shuttle port, or star port. You can purchase a ticket to your destination (he probly doesnt even look at his destination, just runs, following the arrow), and ride a transport to a closer, more viable city, or the city where your destination ends. Why run across the map from Taike to Wayfar (probly hour run) when you can run to ethna, 3 minutes, then buy a shuttle to Bestine, run to wayfar, 10 minutes? And never are the deliver missions this drastic!

**cough** newb **cough**

4."Combat itself is extremely boring and nothing but another point/click and watch. "

Blitz- What was ultima online? What was anarchy online? what was Everquest? what was Dark Age of Camelot? I mean come on, this isnt Street Fighter here, you pay for what you get! Dont complain about the battle system when you know its going to be the same as previous games! It works along with cutting down bandwidth cost as if everything was streetfighter...think about it! Go back to your console and complain about tony hawk or something else. If you complain about the battle system, you shouldnt even have touched a mmorpg in the first place!

--"You basically que up commands and watch your character either hit or miss with relatively nothing in the early stages to keep you from falling asleep doing so. "

Blitz- If he has played, he is a newb. There are things called line of sight, different prone possitions, etc, etc, that add to a different aspect of the game play. I was fighting a rebel spy in one desyroy mission, as I saw my health bar lowering (almost dead), I ran behind a stone and it said lost line of sight of target. I figured out that if I could run, position myself to hit the target with him loosing sight of me, I could possibly win. And with that, I did! I, with half a health bar, defeated a red con Smuggler... but of course he didnt know about line of sight cause he never played the game eh?

--"However, one of the biggest catches is that some of the skill trees when achieved, still do not function as intended"

Blitz- What skill tree are you talking about? hmm? oh yea, you didnt play did you... right... maybe hes talking about jedi? oh wait, well get to that later as I read along... :D

5."There is no sense of purpose or fulfillment at all in SWG. In other MMO's you were always driven by the next item, seeing the next high end area or monster, or obtaining wealth for use for your smaller characters to experience gameplay with a little edge for their fresh start."

Blitz- No high end items? No high end monsters? new characters? you dont need those, but ill get that in a little bit. THE GAME HASNT BEEN OUT FOR LESS THAN A WEEK, and you complain about high end items? Dear God, strike this man with lightning! If you played beta you would know, if you slay Dark Jedi, you can get lightsabers, hows that for a cool item? Oh you didnt know that? How about being able to wear tuskin armor and have their rifles? Oh, yea I guess thats cool huh? Or or or, there are so many things you dont even know that exist cause you never played the game! Dont get me started about Monsters...

Also, there are things called theme parks, like Jabbas palace, the Dark Sith temple, Obi-wans house..different landmarks, and some you can interract totally with like Jabbas, and even see boba fett! Have you been to jabbas yet? I doubt it! oh yea you have huh! The screenshot of it on the box is about as far as you got tho, HAH!

--"The highest end content is to become a jedi at some point -- which no one knows anything about."

Blitz- Yes, no one knows anything about them, because if they did, they wouldnt bother telling you, nor anyone else. You want 50 billion people with FS (Force Sensitive) characters runing around? no! Jedi are in hiding at this time in the story and plot, so not many exist. Also, unlocking the FS slot is different for everyone as the Dev posted in another forum. So if you have a FS slot, it is truely unique, and even if you tried to retrace your steps on another account, you mostlikely could not remake it again. And who said you had to be a Jedi with the FS slot, the Devs mentioned that there are other professions that are not mentioned at all that have finished internal testing. These COULD BE a bounty hunter that has force pull? or the list goes on. Truely, if you have a FS slot, it is unique, and something that is the pinacle of the high end goals.

Oh yes, how can they have Jedi complete? probly not implemented? The devs did Internal testing with the jedi as they STATED in their forums, and actually had beta missions for special prizes like, find the Dev (who was a jedi, thats why you see those screenshots of them). Then near the end of beta, in the "last few weeks", they allowed all testers to become Force Sensitive, but it was not annouced at the time, so no one actually unlocked the FS slot (when you unlock it, you get a second character slot, so you can actually have 2 characters per server...stupid reviewer). Now that people knew it was opened, they are trying to see what they did, and do something different to unlock the slot, but the Devs said it probly wont happen for a while yet. Also, many have done this as I have first hand experienced it, by accidently pushing a combo of buttons (dont remember whitch) it said something to the point of, "you do not have the ability, saber throw"... does that answer your speculation?

--"Something that had the beta community in an uproar and was completely a marketing decision to try and make people pay more money to have more then one character on their play server. Gone are the days of trying anything new with your friends, or playing a completely different class with your friends you have met over the span of your life on a server -- unless of course you want to shell out ANOTHER $50.00 for the game and $15.00 a month for the account. Otherwise, you will be forced to delete your character and start all over again."

Blitz- This kid didnt research his material at all, as most reviewers should ALWAYS do, and mostlikely as I stated many times, didnt play at all! YOU DONT HAVE TO PURCHASE ANOTHER ACCOUNT! If you want to persue another profession or skill, go ahead. You can sell back your skills for training points, and re-train in the desired profession. You can even be a marksman, then switch to an artisan, or make a hybrid like most and be both. He never played the game...at all.

6."The player vs. Player aspect of Star Wars Galaxies is horribly designed without any goals to achieve, or even a sense of why you should even log in and fight."

Blitz- I would love to ask this kid, if he actually played pvp yet, not pve, but pvp. I doubt it, and if he did, it was vs 1 or 2 other players. If he would have gone to some battlefields where everyone is at now, he would experience some crazy fighting. There are tons of rebel and imp groups that venture from Bestine (imp capitol city) to anchor head (rebel base and city), and duke it out. No goals to achieve? Have you played the pve against the monsters? Know those outposts they have? the turrets? even the mobs? Well if you fight the rebels (in imp perspective), you can gain enough points, and purchase a load of things, ranging from armor (imperial armor, the white suit like storm troopers) to outposts (you can build outposts like the ones you fight, cost alot), to even hiring strom troopers to fight along side of you! Lack of content? no goals? you set a goal yourself, in writing the worst review ever! oh yeah! There are some At-St's on Yavin 4 you can battle along side with, thats one spot that I know of :D

7."Given this is a 3rd generation MMOG, you would think by now that vehicles and rideable mounts would be standard with every game design concept with that milestone met years before it even entered beta testing."

Blitz- haha! Just wait and see my friend, you will eat your own words as time rolls by!

"you * Might * see vehicles in the game"

--They will be in there, they said they will be, and alraedy have been doing internal testing, oh but you didnt know that did you? Read the forums fool!

--"Is there really anything good about the game?"

As he mentioned before, yes they have a space expansion comming out! Remember when he sated you cant use veichles? the next expansion is all about veichles... in SPACE! Read SWG's main site!

I think I am all about done reading his review twice now, and the crafting system is great, everything is dandy, he just needs to mature and research his material.

"On a side note, I feel I need to say the following."

Bltiz- After read that paragraph, I feel sorry for the kid, really I do..Take it from me people of G|A?! The game is great, and probly one of the best MMORPG's I have played to date. His review is trash in a can, and hopefully someone will toss a match in there and burn it off of the site it was posted on.

I am going to go gain some experience in rifle so I can become a bounty hunter (Something cool: BH's can manufacture search droids, and send them to different cities like Darth Maul did in ep 1, and find different people)..now if you feel like you would like to join me, go ahead, im on bloodfin server and my name is Blitz...Careful tho, Im going to be an imperial, and my tigger finger is quick :D

..but the review you just read, mostlikely killed a few brain cells. If you like rpg's, and if you like online games, plus the fact that its Star Wars, then come join me. The fee isnt bad to pay per month. Work about a hour or two for some of you, and it will pay it off. Really, is 14 dollers to much to pay? If it is dont bother playing games at all, cause in fact, you pay a normal fee of 50 dollers for a game now adays, plus 1000 total on new consoles cause there is always a good game on each new console, so you must have it, or on upgrading your computer as time rolls by and your out dated. Save that money, and dont enjoy the fun and entertainment games has, just go buy a book and read. Thats always enjoyable and cheap :heh:

The series the Wheel of Time is great, better than Lord of the Rings, plus it has 10 books I think, last one just was released, by the author Robert Jordan. Reading is always good...but sometimes when you read, it makes you want to play that role, thats why we have games :P

Your Dedicated Game Staffer,

Just to show you how much fun SWG is, I'll post a link tomorrow as hopefully it will be up.. of an article of a raid I led.

Small, but did the job, we took over the Rebel base/city of Anchorhead!

Ill post the link tomorrow or when I get it
