Welcome to the NBA's version of "Trading Spaces".

Saturday's Washington Post reports Milwaukee Bucks general manager Ernie Grunfeld soon is expected to become the Washington Wizards' new president of basketball operations -- Michael Jordan's old job before his last comeback as a player.

And all Jordan is expected to do, the Post reports, is become one of the new owners of Grunfeld's long-time employer -- the Bucks.

Both of these stories were broken on June 26, draft day, by ESPN.com's NBA Insider Chad Ford.

Citing league sources, the Post reports Grunfeld is expected to speak with Wizards' owner Abe Pollin soon to finalize the deal. Grunfeld refused to confirm or deny the move after trading guard Sam Cassell and center Ervin Johnson to the Minnesota Timberwolves Friday in exchange for Joe Smith and Anthony Peeler.

The Post also reports the NBA and Bucks soon will acknowledge the sale of Sen. Herb Kohl's team to Jordan's ownership group. Jordan spent the previous two seasons playing for the Wizards after a 19-month stint in the team's front office. The newspaper reports that the NBA's approval process on the sale could take weeks.

Wes Unseld, the Wizards long-time general manager who announced he was taking an extended leave of absence in the spring, said the June 26 draft was his last day on the job.

The Post also reports new coach Eddie Jordan is building his staff. Phil Hubbard, a Golden State Warriors' assistant, is expected to join the Wizards' coaching staff that also features Mike O'Koren and Tom Young. Larry Drew, a holdover from Doug Collins' staff, was asked to join Eddie Jordan's staff but has decided to leave the Wizards, the Post reports.

well, in some ways it makes sense.

if jordan was with the bucks, he'd be within 100 miles of chicago, which would probably help him perform a little better on the job. seriously, reports out of the wizards' organization basically said that mike tried to run the place from the links in chicago. didn't exactly work out too well.

in addition, jordan obviously wants to have significant ownership and control, so this would probably be ideal from that perspective.

but until jordan shows that he really has some skill in running an organization and managing players, and isn't just in this to make money/get attention, i'm skeptical of how well it's going to work out.

I heard that the Buck's GM might be going to the Wizards,a nd that Jordan and his group might take over next week. I wonder who was behind the Cassel trade to Minnesota.

I guess Jordan's money isn't good there huh? :hmm:

I just wonder if they woulda sold it had it not been Jordan (or any other "rich and famous Black guy") buying it? Yeah... I bet. :hmm:

You figure... 18 years of investment netting back almost 1000% profit... more money than most of us will EVER see and yet he just couldn't do it. Ummm hmm... :2far:
i dunno......it seems like it's a little premature to try to say that race was an issue in kohl's decision. it seems like there could be a lot of other reasons for it.....

Or maybe Jordan just isn't very good at running a bball team?
Maybe his track record with the Wizards shows that he's not as dedicated nor as good of with personel decisions as he should? :hmm:

Well look at that: Herb Kohl is a lib who supports affirmative action on the basis of diversity http://kohl.senate.gov/press/062303.html

Yet Kohl has been obstructionistic in the nomination of Miguel Estrada to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. And now this. :dodgy:

A lot actually. If you spend millions building something over the last decade, would you want to sell it to someone that isn't very good at running a bball team? I think MJ is a hell of a baller, but i feel he isn't fit to run a team from the front office and makes poor decisions. Kohl wasn't even the person doing the negociations, there wasn't any one else waiting in line to acquire the bucks. I just don't see where you're bringing this 'race' issue from.

Herb Kohl is up for reelection this year so maybe he was using it as a prop to get him reelected since he saved the team from moving.

Actually the New Charlotte NBA team is owned by the founder of BET. Plus the Anaheim Angels was recently bought by a Hispanic Man.

Not that the race, religion, age, ethnicity or sexual orientation of an owner matters. The sooner this racial bean counting is dropped, the better. :dodgy:
