I think this is a good price for TiVo. I have TiVo and all current TiVo members were sent an offer to refer a friend to get a TiVo unit at a discounted price.
To get the $199 price go to http://www.tivo.com/help then send yourself a discount email postcard. Follow the instructions in the email you receive.
This offer is good until 7/31/03. Also, for those of you that are not familiar with TiVo, you also have to pay for the TiVo service. I think that is about $299 for a lifetime membership or you can pay monthly $12.95. TiVo is cool, but I'm sure it's not worth it to everyone once you add in the cost of the TiVo service. But for those of you that still want TiVo, at least you can save a little on the TiVo unit.
Can't live with out my DirecTivo (2 tuners in one unit and only costs $5 a month for the Tivo subscription with DirectTV service)

You can get the Replay Tv 5060 (60 hour unit) for $199 at your local Costco.

Good point! ReplayTV is already $199 and cnet gave it a slightly better rating than TiVo. http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6463_7-5023850-1.html?Tag=txt I have TiVo and love it, but ReplayTV is also a good choice.
The Costco ReplayTV 5060 actually has an 80GB hard drive in it. Only 60GB is used. However, there are ways around it...

So is there a way to make use of the other 20 GB of space? I'm assuming yes. So how do I do it? ;)
Yeah, there are ways. You do, of course, void your warranty.
I just swapped out my 40gb drive for a 120gb. :) it's a piece of cake.
You can even modify the fan to make it quieter...

guys are you moding or upgrading your tivo? If yes, how does this effect your subscription? Can you upgrade the hd or put it on your network without sacrificing your subscription? Any stories?
For ReplayTV, your subscription is not stored on the hard drive, it's in firmware on the motherboard. Not sure about TiVo.

I've got a tivo with 2 120 gig drives in it. Tivo doesn't care if you upgrade. The only thing Tivo has ever gotten angry about was when an individual posted on a message board how to hack your system to get the guide data w/o a subscription.
My observations from the Tivo Community at AVSFORUM is that the Tivo people actually support Mods, although not on a public level. The Wireless cards, PCI adapters, etc all increase their sales.

I have the Replay and think it's great, I never used a Tivo so I can't compair.
