Adamson Wants to Shoot Narnia in New Zealand
Source: The Dominion Post Monday, June 30, 2003

The Dominion Post reports that director Andrew Adamson is hoping to shoot the first film about CS Lewis' seven-part "Chronicles of Narnia" in New Zealand.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, with a reported budget of $170 million, is based on the second book in the series, published in 1950.

But live-action shooting will not go ahead there unless it gets a tax incentive or other support. The Government's decision on whether to support the film is expected next week.

Weta Workshop in Wellington is already making props, including swords and armor, while New Zealander Grant Major, "The Lord of the Rings" production designer, is the film's producer and design director.

Adamson said if the movie were shot there, filming was likely to be this summer. While he had considered shooting snow-bound scenes in New Zealand those would be shot in the northern hemisphere.

Great series, the 1st I read as a kid. That Narnia with the kid and Mr. Ed was my favorite.

Interestingly he was a Christian writer and and had a great deal of infuence on J.R.R. Tolkein. They both would meet a pub and discuss writing, ideas, religion, etc.

Also on the block is the Hobbit. Which could be a nice 2 parter or decent 3 hour movie.

Cf,
Xanth was a great series but it seems to have gotten a little crazed as do all his series after the first 5 or so. Might be that I just got too old for it. Seems everyones favorites are the one they 1st read of the Xanth series. Mine was Centaur Isle. I still got a thing for chicks with green hair. :P
