According to Lexar: “Password protect your confidential data with the Safe Guard security software that comes pre-loaded on the product.” I’m not sure how many people will actually use the security feature, but it’s about the same price as the “regular” Jump Drive.

Lexar’s site does not specify which USB version, so I’m assuming it’s most likely USB 1.1. So if security is not that important, you may want to opt for the PNY 128MB USB 2.0 drive for $29.99 this week at BestBuy B&M, which will be better for the long run.

From usb.org, max. operating speed: USB 1.0 = 1.5 Mb/s, USB 1.1 = 12 Mb/s, USB 2.0 = 480 Mb/s. Translation: According to Lexar, their USB 2.0 flash drive has a sustained read of 6.0 MB/s and sustained write of 4.5 MB/s and is 6 times faster at transfering data than a USB 1.1 flash drive.

Lexar @ Outpost: $36.99 – 10 MIR (good thru 9/30/03) = $26.99 + shipping (http://shop4.outpost.com/product/3678465)
