Looks like a deal to me...Best Buys' Sunday ad includes the DMP-100 32mb MP3 Player/Recoder for just $49.99. No rebates, pricematches or hassles, just $49.99 off the shelf. Office Max's ad has the same unit for $129.99 (on sale from the regular $159.99!) Too bad Office Max doesn't do 155% against Best Buy! Still a 32mb unit for this price with recording? Hard to pass up.

***************
WHOA! This deal just got MUCH better - Final Cost of $19.99 now - See the message 2 posts below.

Dang this does look like a good deal (although the lack of mac compatibility isn't gonna make me give up my Nomad)...anyhoo, even though we can't get the 155% rebate from OfficeMax...the 110% offer from CircuitCity is pretty tempting!:-) (which i have fond memories of from our good friend "mr free tivo")...CircuitCity has the unit for $149.99 so 110% pricematch=$39.99 32meg MP3 player! I just ordered one on-line for B&M pickup (good way to make sure there's a unit waiting for me...), and i'll see what happens when i whip out my pricematching mojo tomorrow after church...

The manufacturer, D-Link, currently has a $30 rebate active for any DMP-100 purchased through an authorized retailer until 9/30/00. That makes the final cost after rebate just $19.99!

Rebate form is at: http://www.dlink.com/sales/promo/Back2School$30.htm

Both Best Buy and Office Max are qualifying retailers. OM will pricematch Best Buy 100% and has been running an in-store promotion for the last few weeks giving a 5" b&w TV with am/fm free with certain products. Not sure, but a poster over at FW claims the DPM-100 is a qualifying purchase. If so, you could wind-up with the 32mb MP3 Player/Recorder and a 5" b&w TV for the grand total of just $19.99! (Depends if they both require the UPC - if so, then it's one or the other.)

Or, if you can find one at a Circuit City (every CC within 30+ miles of me is out,) do the 110% pricematch mentioned in the post above, add the rebate and get the DMP-100 for $9.99!

Is this for stores only or on-line too? I just checked bestbuy.com and they don't have it. When does this deal expire?

My nearest store is 40min drive away. We don't get the advertisement in our paper since they are ot local. I don't think Amex will check the distance to the store.

It's in the Best Buy sales ad that comes with the Sunday paper. It's in the retail stores and good till Saturday night at closing time.

some bastard went in as soon as they opened yesterday and bought all of them http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/mad.gif http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/mad.gif
so i couldn't even price match cause the store your pricematching has to have them in stock. But when i did go to best buy they told me circit city is selling them for 50 bucks but when i went there i couldn't even find it.

It's time to use the American Express Blue Pricematch. Can anyone scan an image of the advertisement so we can purchase the player somewhere else and get the same deal? I guess we need a full page and detailed item page for Amex. Thanks

I called my Best Buy and of course, they're out. I was told that they are issuing rain checks. Stop in, pick one up and when they're back in stock, you can get it for $50. The rebate is good until 9/30/00.

I kind of wonder if this isn't a precursor to a major price drop in MP3 players. They'll be just like calculators - back in 1973, a pocket calculator was $400. I bet within 5 years you'll get a free MP3 player when you buy a large Pizza Hut pizza...

Actually, that sounds like a pretty good promotion: they come pre-loaded with a 30 second commercial for Pizza Hut, followed by a couple songs by some throw-away group (like N'Stink or the Backdoor Boys.)

How easy is it pricematching with AMEX?? What do you have to do?

Okay.... I've JUST come from Circuit City, so here is the real scoop.

CC does require that the item be in stock at best buy, and they will check. As a matter of fact, they will make YOU wait on hold while they help other customers.

If the item is in stock, they will MATCH (not 110%) the Best Buy price.

If you instead, buy it from CC, and then "find it elsewhere for less", they will credit you %110 BACK. This is how you get the %110 price match.

So, I bought the last one they had in stock, for $161.00! The Best Buy in my area is supposed to have them back in stock tomorrow. I then have to go back to CC, and go through the verification (calling Best Buy) again to get my %110.

I plan to get a rain check from Best Buy as well, just in case. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

I have also verified that this item can be returned to Circuit City within 30 days, with no restocking fee. (So I have an out if I decide to give up...)

Don't ask me how much work time and gas money I have lost in pursuit of this deal... http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

I have good news and bad news about this deal. First I went to Circuit City and they were quite suprised by the price. They said they would only price match the item if Best Buy has it in stock. The 110% thing only counts if you bought it at Circuit City, and then found it somewhere else cheaper. Fat chance of that happening. anyway I brought the thing home and tried it, but it didn't work. My computer kept saying that it couldn't communicate with the MP3 player. I went back to Circuit City and swapped it for a different one but the same problem. So it may be a good deal, but I guess it dosen't work on all computers.

Picked mine up this afternoon...actually, officemax has a 155% pricematch policy (according to their website), and my cousin and I *finally* found a place that had it (circuit city claimed to have had it, after the one hour drive those retards "claimed" it wasn't in stock anymore, after they checked the flyer for best buy). So, we called up officemax last night, they had two, so we were hoping we'd get a nice deal (they claimed it was $159.99 on the phone), so with the 155% pricematch it'd be...free. Anyways, we went there today, they said it was $159.99, we whipped out the best buy flyer (AFTER they showed us the boxes, else those retards might have "claimed" it wasn't in stock), and mysteriously it rang up as $49.99. It's mysterious because the their sunday flyer had a 16mb version of the same thing for $99.99. Hmmm.... Ahhh well, $20 after rebate is pretty damned good. BTW, the officemax and circuit city I went to were in East Brunswick, NJ, however they're both supposedly cleaned out now. Just something I want to point out: these suckers run on AAA batteries, and have no AC inputs, so you'd better buy some ni-cads...

Well, I tried installing the NT version under Win2k and I got that problem, so I rebooted to Win98 and tried installing it, same problem, then (don't ask why) my cousin decided to read the instructions, and we learned that your parallel port has gotta be in ECP mode...ECP/EPP mode worked fine for me, but I hate rebooting to Win98 just to throw a couple of files onto it. But it's still REALLY cool looking http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/wink.gif

Yes i was at circut city today too...they won't do a 110% if youre buying it from them with the matched price, they will only do 100%. To get the 110% you need to buy it @ $150, wait for a best buy to get back in stock, and try to get $110 back...i'll stick with the $50 match...

Geez, guys. Officemax.com is out of stock online now on the MP3 player. I ordered it anyways, hoping it would be back in stock in 7 days (or else they cancel it automatically). It will probably be cancelled http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/frown.gif . I added a Logitec Quick Cam for $39.99 and a couple packs of CD-RW's to get over $100 and then got the $25 for $100 off coupon. The total for all that junk was $85 shipped - $30 mail in rebate = $55.

For those of you that think there is a problem with your player not connecting to your computer, turn the parallel port to ECP and then load the software, then you have to physically turn on the player with the play button, then transfer the songs over. Figured this out as I though mine wouldn't work either.

Oh, and those of you who got in on the Nomad II? this thing accepts SmartMedia, so you can go and buy this for $20 and put your card in it and then have 64 meg o ram, neato

I called my local Best Buy the other day and of course they were out of the MP3 player. The person said that they were getting a 'lot' of them Wednesday night and they would be available Thursday morning. I guess I'll be there when they open and see if he was telling the truth. I already have a Diamond Rio PMP300 (from Mobshop) and NomadII (from EMusic). I don't really need another MP3 player, but I can't pass up this deal. I may buy a couple and use them as gifts.

I've been sorting through some newsgroups and it looks like a lot of people are having problems getting the parallel i/o to work on this thing even after setting the parallel port to ECP and THEN installing the software and making sure the device is on and all that crap. They said that D-Link said there are some parallel ports that are not 100% "ECP compatible". Well the 3 computers in my house seem to be 3 of them. The only thing I can think to try is to install a parallel port card, but I've got too many IRQ's used up to do that. Oh well. For $20 it still wasn't a bad deal!

Does the D-Link come w/a 32mb smartmedia card? I thought it just had 32mb of storage built into it. If this is a card, it's a pretty decent eBay candidate -- the cards are going for around $60-70.

I just had officemax drop my MP3 player off, and so far I am very impressed with the sound of the thing. I had been in officemax the store looking for a pricematch on the best buy ad though, and even if it was in stock at BB (it wasn't) they said that they would only go down to $100, because they don't compete with Best Buy!

Hmm, computers, printers, copiers, software, office desks, etc... Yeah, nothing to compete with there. I even called after seeing the deal on their web site and they wouldn't even match THEIR web sites prices.

Has anyone been able to find out if you can get BOTH the free 5" B&W TV along with the rebate for DMP-100? I heard someone say (great reliability huh?) that a COPY of the UPC can be sent in to DLINK for the $30 rebate, but I'm kinda suspicious. OfficeMax told me that I had a choice. So now the question is, should I get the $30 rebate (to bring it down to $19.99), or get the potentially ebay-able TV. Anyone have any clue as to how much the TV would go for? I've used ebay like 3 times. Thanks!

I sent off an email to D-link asking the same thing a few hours ago, so if nobody beats me too it, I'll put it up here when I find out. As for the value of the TV, I did a search on Ebay and a 5" B&W TV (I don't know if it's the exact same one, but there were a few on there, so it's likely) were going for $10-$15, and those were ending in 10 minutes when I saw them.

As to the value of the TV: I bought the exact same television (because it can run on batteries) at the local Kroger for $17.99 when an ice storm knocked out power to 500,000 Atlantians late last year. Since then, Kroger has stocked them twice more, always at the $17.99 price.

Policies really range from store to store...some eb's only pricematch other stores in that mall only, and other eb's will pricematch anything granted you have a paper, it really depends on how stingy the manager is (most eb's, but more software etc's aka babbages are EXTREMELY stingy, I used to work at software etc. a couple years ago and the manager before I left was real stingy, hell the entire year i was employed with them they were too cheap to even fix the broken security system [which is, to this day broken]). In any case, I drifted off-topic there, but all in all if there's an eb close by go try it out, especially if the other stores are sold out or far away. Personally, I would have one person call up to ask if that item's in stock, and then another (or yourself) call them and simply ask for their pricematching policy...most stores with managers/employees who care too much about the store aren't too keen about matching this one.

This is about the problem with the parallel port. Once I bought my D-Link from OfficeMax, which also showed up for $49.99, I tried installing it on my Win 98 SE computer. That didn't work even though I set the printer port to ECP. However on my Win 95 computer it worked! So I was wondering if it had to do with the OS?

I was at Best Buy this morning about 10:15. It wasn't very busy and I was able to attract an employee's attention quickly. I asked him about the mp3 player on sale. I told him that I called Monday and was told that they would have some in Wednesday night so that Thursday morning they would be ready to sell. He said both stores in my area didn't get any of them. He asked me when the rebate was over, and I said on the 30th of September. He said that was about the time they expected them in! I got a raincheck for two of them and I'll wait until I hear something. I hate when stores advertise something they can't possibly have in or keep in stock and expect us to come in and buy something else to make us happy. Hopefully it'll come in by then or I'll have to look somewhere else.

Well after a long hard battle. I finally got a computer working with the MP3 player. I can't believe that out of 4 computers I have at home that oly have work with it. The sad part is neithre desktop works but both my laptops work. D-Link customer service sucks and I don't think I will buy anything from them again. On topf of that I had to delete all prints that are on that LPT port. The only other thing i would try is the software from pine the players are almost identical. My problem was it would only connect once. D-link was no help. They told me some machines are not compatible and to try another model. People are having problems wiht this across the board.

I got a successfull %110 price match from Circuit City! Am I the only one?

It took:
3 trips to CC
1 trip to best buy
1 trip to OfficeMax

Basically, my buddy found one (and only one) in stock at office max. We went and bought it right away, then went straight to Circuit City (where I had already bought one for $161.00). We showed them the reciept, which was dated that day, and they couldn't really argue. They refunded $118 to my credit card! My total cost, after tax & rebate, $13.00!

Of course, I haven't hooked this thing up to my PC yet. It may suck. At least I was able to get circuit city to live up to their promises. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

Oh yeah... and Best Buy promised to get more in last Thursday. Called them, guess what? They didn't show up. What a bunch of liars...

Speaking of voiding warranties, I couldn't find any info about a warranty on the web page, or the manual.

I went to Best Buy Thursday about 15 minutes after they opened. There were no DMP-100s on the shelf, so I found a sales associate and asked him if any had come in Wednesday night like I was told. The answer was there were none at either of the two stores in my area. Today I called up OfficeMax and they had six in stock. I got there about an hour later, and I didn't see any on the shelf and a couple had three in their cart. I figured I was too late, but they ended up having two left. I bought those two which happened to be the last ones among the three nearby stores. I still have a raincheck from Best Buy, but they don't expect them until the end of September, and I think the rebate ends on the 30th. At least I did get in on this deal. I read on another board that Dlink will accept a photocopy of the UPC symbol so that you can also get the TV. I'd rather have the $30 off, but if I get the TVs, all the better.

An addition to the above message, the guy and his girlfriend that bought the three DMP-100s didn't even know about the rebate! I told him and he where to get the rebate form. I told him to go to the webpage. He asked what the webpage address was (DUH! www.dlink.com, (http://www.dlink.com,) listed on the back of the box). He wanted to know how much music it would hold and what an additional 32MB would cost. He also asked if it was easy to put in the additional memory. At least his girlfriend understood when I said they'd have to send the rebates to three places to get them all.

Anyone else looking to get that 110% discount, you can EASILY do it if you (of course buy it for $49.99 somewhere) and then do express pickup on circuitcity.com (where you go to your local circuit city and pick it up). For my area it said no circuit city's had em, so maybe they didn't lie when I reached the store, they just lied when I called them up and asked if they had any to begin with.

I just got back from Office Max local store, they had alot of DMP-100's, because they werent marked down to 49.99, they were 159.99, so I got the manager and told him the website and alot of other Office Max stores have them for 49.99 and he checked and poof, got 2 for 49.99 each. My only mistake is my reciept.. I only got 1 reciept, hm how am I gonna get 2 rebates and 2 B&W tv's (I own 2 houses so 1 per household is ok)

D-Link DMP-100 software does not work with WindowsME, BUT since its excactly the same thing as PINEUSA's (www.pineusa.com) mp3 players I tried their software, they have WinME drivers and presto, worked! just a lil info for those in need.

In case some of you missed it your Printer Port must be set to ECP in the BIOS before you install the software. It need to see an IRQ to function.....

Has anyone who ordered from OM's homepage but was sent a backordered email got any hint of a whisper from OM? I've ordered last tuesday but haven't heard from them since and my guess is that it will probably be cancelled by the 7th day!

I called all the om's in my area, one of them had two in stock, but they were both on hold, (this was friday Night) but the associate i talked to said that one of them had been on hold since monday and the manager was going to take it off of hold if it wasnt picked up that night. So i gave him my name and phone # and he said he would put it on hold for me if it was taken off, and would call me to notify me. So i called a half hour after the store opened the next morning, and was told that they were holding it for me. I told them i would not be able to pick it up that night until close to closing time, and they said, that's fine. So when i went in to pick it up, it was not in their little hold cabinet at the customer service desk, so the manager went in the back to look for it. She found a piece of paper with a piece of tape attached to it that reas "HOLD: CHRIS, D-LINK DMP-100 PIKUP TONIGHT" but alas no player. it took me 10 minutes of arguing with the manager to get her to give me a rain check on that price. My reasoning was that it was on hold for me and was sold to someone else. So i still have no player, and now have to wait for them to get it in and then drive to an om 30 minutes away to get it. oh well, at least i am getting it for free (My little brother is gonna buy the tv for $20).

hey jaybittle, it's official the 8th day and I haven't heard word from them yet. I checked my status on the OM site and the paperclips that I ordered to put the purchase over 50 bucks just went backordered too (CBO). But then when I checked a few minutes ago, it became PIP, which I know not what it means. Anyone having this problem too?

I recieved my X-tra large shipping box from OM today. I was excited when I saw the size of the thing, thinking that they included the MP3 player, but alas, the contents included (1)33¢ notebook and a whole bunch of packing paper. They actually sent it UPS ground (which is a bit more than 33¢!!). At least they didn't charge me shipping and I got a small victory (them eating the shipping cost). Will I ever see the day that a cheap MP3 player comes my way. The gym is boring without some tunes. (If I had only jumped on the Nomad deal sooner....)

I ordered the player online, but I went locally to OM and picked up two. They printed me out a rebate reciept and away I went. Got home and tried to get the thing to work to no luck. Going to sell the 2nd one http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/wink.gif.
