Unfortunately it is the guard I hoped we would resign. They don't have that type of money to match the offer, he is all but gone.

From ESPN.com
http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2003/0721/1583869.html

"Warriors will have 15 days to match

Gilbert Arenas, who is the most coveted player left on the free-agent market, signed a six-year offer sheet with the Washington Wizards on Monday night believed to be in the $65 million range.

"He has signed the (Wizards') offer sheet," Dan Fegan, Arenas' agent, told ESPN.com.

Because Arenas is a restricted free agent, the Golden State Warriors have 15 days to match the offer. But the Warriors would have to move at least three players, without taking back any salary, to get far enough under the salary cap to match the Wizards' offer.

As a team over the cap, Golden State is helpless to counter any offer with a starting salary exceeding the league average of $4.9 million.

Washington and the Los Angeles Clippers pounced on the Warriors' limitations by making offers in the $60 million range, and Arenas was thought to be leaning toward signing with L.A. -- given his oft-stated preference for living on the West Coast."

FINALLY!!! headed in the right direction (except for that stackhouse extention...and jury's still out on kwame...actually...they may have gotten a negative verdict already on that one).

ANYWAYS!!!
nice grunfeld!!!
do with the wiz what you were trying to do with the knicks and got fired for.

got a backcourt of Arenas, hughes.
with Stackhouse, jeffries and brown.... it'll be interesting...

definitely could be a west coast/run and gun type of team. they can be really fun to watch provided that their young guys pan out.

man, that sucks for all the long-suffering golden state fans who finally had the prospect of a decent, young team to watch :2far:

but i think it was basically a foregone conclusion that arenas was gone....

Like me, i've been waiting for this team to turn around for years, and just when they were starting to put a team together...this happens. Although they got Steve Logan to at least play in the summer league, which was more than he wanted to do last year. There are rumors in my local paper that they maybe be signing Speedy Claxton from San Antonio to replace Areanas. He's not as good as Arenas, but at least he's a guard with potential.
