MONTREAL — The parents of Ghyslain Raza, the Quebec teenager who became a celebrity this spring after classmates posted on the Internet a video of him mimicking a Star Wars character, allege that their son was so humiliated by the experience that he had to get psychiatric care.

well, maybe if their son didn't act like a retard while the video camera was running, he wouldn't have this problem, now would he?

The Razas are now seeking $225,000 in damages from the parents of four teenagers: Michaël Caron, François Labarre, Jérôme Laflamme and Jean-Michel Rheault.
They say the four stole the video from a school filing cabinet where Ghyslain had stored a video camera he was using for a student project.
The lawsuit says the four young men then digitized the video before sending it out on the Internet in April, with messages inviting people to make insulting remarks about it.
The statement of claim includes lengthy excerpts that it says come from Internet chats in May between the pranksters.
Complete with misspellings, bad grammar and cyber-style acronyms, the exchanges are used in the statement of claim as evidence that the boys lacked remorse. They also brag in them that they evaded attempts by school officials to find the culprits behind Ghyslain's misfortunes.
Ghyslain's parents and lawyers would not speak to reporters yesterday. The parents of the defendants either did not answer calls or refused to comment because the dispute was before the courts.
While the video of Ghyslain's antics generated some derisive Internet comments, others felt bad and started raising money for him. One group collected more than $3,000 (U.S.), which they used to buy him an Apple iPod portable music player.
In the excerpts from Internet chats filed in court, the four appear to be plotting ways to get the gifts sent to another address so they can keep the iPod for themselves.
okay, at first i was gonna say, why the heck did he let someone videotape him doing it if he dint want anyone to see it...
but man, even without attempting to hijack the poor guy's gifts, those four are buttholes. and they definitely did something illegal (and mean)... i hope they pay for it.

ok, i can see if he videotaped himself and they stole the tape, then there are probably some grounds for a case.....
but i still say that if he weren't an idiot in the first place, he could have avoided a lot of problems

you've never done anything silly like that? admittedly, i try NOT to record myself when i'm being a dork, but i dance around my room like an idiot all the time! or like, with friend's i'll wear goofy costumes and such. and i have taken pictures of things that are really meant to be for my eyes only, or for a very select group of people. so i can understand why he's pissed that those boys took something private and made it an internet phenomena.

Yes I noticed that too, a $3000 ipod? That must have one hell of a lot of storage capacity!

Take it easy on the kid, bro!
I'm sure most, if not everyone here picked up a broom or a some kind of stick atleast once in their life and pretended to be Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader.

Bad news reporting. They really should have posted a link to the video. :hihi:

I guess he'll get the last laugh when he makes a cameo appearance in the next Star Wars Movie.

It's one thing to share a picture of someone in an embarrassing situation to a friend of yours, but it's another thing to post that same picture on the Internet for the world to see.
A friend of mine is seeing a lady who has a real jerk of an ex-husband. He has never paid child support, could care less how his son is doing (he lives in another state), and owes everyone money.
Last year, he sent an old nude picture of her and threatened to post it on the Internet if she got in his way.
There must be laws against this kind of behavior.

This kid should be reveling in the attention he is getting. Many people have given up far more than their dignity in attempts to become famous.
If anything, this kid should be suing for proceeds. :hihi:

sure i have, but apparently i have no shame, because i don't if the video goes all over the world :heh:
i mean, my high school videos include:
1.) me dragging my buddy down a driveway behind my car
2.) me and my friends dressed in fatigues and pretending to be members of the michigan militia
3.) my friend pretending to be, among other people, ross perot and adolph hitler, while we all laugh approvingly.
4.) me doing the morning announcements for the entire school.
and of course i look like an absolute retard in all these videos :hihi: but hey, if people want to laugh....go for it :P

you're looking back in hindsight. remember what it's like being that age? i remember frequently contemplating suicide when i was a teen because people made fun of me, and i didn't feel accepted. and talking with my friends from college and looking at the statistics, that was a rather common trend at that age. now, it seems absolutely silly, and i couldn't care less what people think. but then, it felt like my entire lifelong happiness was dependent upon people liking me, and being "cool". the kid doesn't really look like a guy who would have a ton of self esteem to begin with, so i'd imagine he's taking this really hard.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, but I think that is just more evidence as to why young people in this country need to spend more time with/around older people. And I don't mean the older people that like running younger people over, either. I'm thinking of it in the About a Boy sense....
