Insects crawl out of boy's eye
A boy has been admitted to a hospital in India after ant-like insects were seen crawling out of his left eye.
Doctors at the Burdwan Medical College are keeping Abu Bakkar under observation, reports the Telegraph of Calcutta.
The 11-year-old and his uncle saw the insects emerging from a sore in the corner of his eye.
Eye specialist Mousumi Banerjee said: "A fistula has formed at the corner of his left eye through which the insects could have emerged.
"They could have developed from eggs laid there by an adult of the same species."
She added that no insect had emerged since his admission to hospital.
The boy, from Parui, near Birbhum, said: "No one believed me, but when my uncle tried to clean the wound the insects came out and then they realised I was suffering."
Bakkar's uncle, Abdul Gafoor, said: "At first, we thought he was making things up, but I saw the small sore and applied moist cotton wool on it. Then I saw with my own eyes six ant-like insects emerge."
A 13-year-old boy was admitted to the same hospital in June after finding live beetles in his urine.
