I fast every year for on Yom Kippur for 24hrs. Its a true fast, no food, no water, nothing. Its ok, but there always seems to be more food commercials on Yom Kippur then any other day of the year. Once I get through the first hunger pangs I am ok.

yep, once a year for Ramadan.
For 30 days i can't eat, drink or have sexual contact while the suns out.
As far as food issues go i'm pretty flexible so i've never had a problem. Sometimes its hard the first 2 days but you get used to it very quickly. Fasting also tends to make me very calm and cool which is interesting because normally if i don't eat i can get irritable. Overall its i very good experience. Helps teach self control and cleanses the body among other things.

is your reason for going on the fast to lose weight? I don't know what this lemonade is but you'd basically be starving yourself. There are better ways to go about it.

nah, i don't need to loose any weight really. actually, i've been trying to gain weight for the past year or so. it's a detoxifying fast. if you google for Master Cleanse you'll find a ton of stuff about it.

but this topic came up and this article is the first thing that popped into my head and i feel like i NEED to post it...:

One of my friends recently did this (the fasting not the colonic). Apparently he was talked into it by someone and he said that although he was definitely hungry he was suprised by the increasing amount of energy he had. My friend actually came down right after it was over and ate non-stop for two days. Funny to watch, not so funny for my groceries.

I sometimes fast for religious reasons.
I've also done a detoxifying fast recently. I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Man, I gotta tell you (without getting too graphic), some really weird stuff started coming out of me. It makes me ill just thinking about what stuff gets stuck in your GI tract...

How do you do a detoxifying fast? It sounds like a clean out for your body, it might be good

I actually read about that when the guy wrote it, and i thought it was the greatest thing ever, and I've wanted to do it for over a year. It sounds like a definite experience. A very disgusting, but oddly good experience. :)

Sometimes I try fasting between lunch and dinner. I can't always stick to it, tho.

You're not actually "fasting" as in not eating any food, you're just avoiding certain foods and taking a lot of herb capsules. It wasn't hard at all, and felt really good. I think I'll do it again after our vacation next week.

Great diet, great cleanse, great chakra opener!, May 2, 2003
Reviewer: Marie Lott Pharaoh from Silver Spring, MD United States
I decided to try this cleanse to open my second and third chakras. I followed the instructions without deviating. For the first two days I had an awful headache, which I believe was the result of not drinking any coffee. After that, it was smooth sailing. I felt great, was a little hungry at times, a little weak at others, and wanted to chew something (which I did around the 3rd day-- boy! did that lemon rind tast good!!). I drink a laxative tea at night and did the sea salt water rinse in the morning. I also continued with my normal routine: went to work, took care of my son, cleaned, cooked, taught my deep-water running class, did my yoga, and exercised as I normally would in my deep-water exercise class where I am a student.
My chakras opened and I feel really good about myself. My self-esteem has increased 10 fold. I may have lost a few pounds, but I have not weighed myself. I have inspired my colleagues to try it. This is all good!
Even if you have doubts, try it for a few days and see if you like it. Just follow the directions to the letter. It's a great thing to do.
Happy in Maryland,
Marie

perhaps. my wife would be more likely to write that one. i found this in the process of looking for help with eczema. i've had eczema on my hands since i was about 15. it's very severe to the point that it's debilitating at times. traditional medicine has not worked for me, and having had several family memebers cure diseases through diet changes and homeopathic medicine, i started looking into it.
hopefully, i'll write a review that says, "this fast and a subsequent diet change cured my eczema". :)

But is that really fasting if you are still allowed to eat? I fast every night while I am asleep, yet I wake up and break my fast with breakfast. So basically you're saying that you shift your eating habits for one month a year? :hmm:

i fast once a week as a spiritual discipline. it is very helpful. some weeks i skip it, but i like it. it is indeed calming. i am fasting today infact, which is only a coincidence. it is a character thing for me, like i said, it is about discipline and self-control. it is very spiritual (i am a Christian in case anyone was wondering). anyone ever read Dallas Willards book, "The Spirit of The Disciplines" ? I love that book. Check it out.
But if you want something to clean your system out, <redneck voice> BOY! This 'll clean your system out! </redneck voice>:

well, we a humble meal once before sunrise and a meal at sunset. Its not a food fest once the sun goes down. Its not too bad during the winter, but just give it a shot durring the summer (that means you eat once at like 5am and once at 9pm). The difference is that your awake, your body is using energy, it wants and craves food.

I kinda fast... every couple of years, I get really lazy. I mean... so lazy that I don't get out of bed. Then, I fast for a week or so till I feel like getting out of bed to get some food.

which book?
last saturday i finished the master cleanse. i only did 5 days though because on friday night i went through a sudden 4 hour period of fairly severe weakness. being that i had job interviews last week, i didn't want the chance of that occurring right before one of them.
