Ok, so I am heavily involved with an irc channel for bittorrents, right? I have had access to many of the new series premieres that are getting ready to roll out in the next 2 months. I thought I'd kind of post what I have seen and liked & not liked...
ABC:
Karen Sisco:
http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-16761/
"Smart. Sexy. Tough. Karen Sisco is a United States marshal on Miami's Gold Coast. In pursuit of dangerous fugitives, Karen must pick her way through the dark underbelly of South Beach nightlife and the sunshine and glitz of Palm Beach highlife … while she struggles to win the respect of her supervisor and fellow officers.
Karen is a barely concealed weapon who can take down a suspect twice her size. The only man she truly trusts is her father – a retired marshal with a wealth of life experience and street smarts. He's Karen's confidant, counselor, confessor – and her rock when her confidence waivers … which it does every time she tries to connect romantically with a man.
Based on the character portrayed by Jennifer Lopez in Elmore Leonard's Out of Sight, Karen Sisco is that rare combination of action and character-drama, with a fresh and original young lead."
It was ok. Definitely not great, although I think it will get much better over the course of the season. I loved the actress (Spy Kids mom) a lot.
Threat Matrix:
http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-16750/
"Every morning at 0800 hours, the President of the United States is given a report that outlines the most active international and domestic threats against the United States. This document is called the Threat Matrix. To combat these threats, the President, through the Department of Homeland Security, has created a highly specialized, elite task force whose mission is to keep our country safe from enemies determined to destroy our way of life."
There is lots more explanation on that page but I won't copy it all. Suffice it to say, this was one of my favorites. I LOVE Jamie Denton, one of the leads, and the cast was great. Definitely a must-see.
CBS:
Two & A Half Men:
http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-17206/
"Charlie is a well-to-do bachelor with a house at the beach, a Jaguar in the garage and an easy way with women. His casual Malibu lifestyle is interrupted when his tightly wound brother, Alan, who's facing a divorce, and Alan's son, Jake, come to stay with him. Together, these two and a half men confront the challenges of growing up—finally. Complicating matters are the brothers' self-obsessed, controlling mother, Evelyn, and Alan's possibly gay estranged wife, Judith."
I actually really liked it. Not my favorite new show, but watch-worthy. Gave me plenty of laughs, but not one that if I miss, I'll cry for. ;)
The Handler:
http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-19534/
"Joe Renato is a handler, an FBI agent who trains street operatives and prepares them to go undercover. The show follows the way he supervises his team--including Lily (the rookie) and Darnell (the veteran)--while giving us a psychological portrait of a man who manages the lives of his agents as he interacts with the law-enforcement bureaucrats who need his services."
This may have been one of my favorites so far. I liked Joe Renato & the 2 undercover agents. It's kind of like taking Vaughn's character in Alias in 20-25 years and doing it from his point of few. (CIA/FBI, of course) It will definitely be on my must-see list this Fall.
NBC:
Las Vegas:
http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-17210/
"Big Ed Deline, former CIA, runs the best surveillance company in Las Vegas for the multibillion-dollar Montecito hotel and resort chain. Big Ed's best employee is Danny McCoy, an ex-Marine and Vegas native, who loves living life in the fast lane. Mike Cannon, head valet, keeps track of who's coming and going. Mary Connell, Danny's childhood friend, is a high-class escort who has a knack for learning people's darkest secrets. Danny's best source just might be Jane, the savvy new casino host. Both exude a seductive style -- a lot like the city itself."
This was probably my favorite so far. Very funny stuff and of course, you can't go wrong with James Caan!
Whoopi:
http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-17548/
"From the creators and executive producers of "3rd Rock from the Sun" and "That ‘70s Show," Grammy, Emmy and Academy Award-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg ("Ghost") stars in this smart and sassy comedy as ex-diva Mavis Rae, a one-hit wonder singer who becomes an opinionated "hotelier" running her own small hotel in New York any way she wants. After 15 years of operating the Lamont Hotel in Manhattan on her charm, wit and a bit of larceny with the help of her reliable Iranian handyman, Nasim (Omid Djalili, "Spy Game," "The Mummy"), Mavis has big plans to expand her clientele by opening up the Paladium Lounge -- or the hotel bar, so guests can see Grammy-nominee Mavis Rae on a regular basis."
I did not think I was going to like this one, but honestly, it was very very funny. The chemistry and humor between Whoopi and Nasim is great and the jokes just kept on coming. I loved it. :)
Coupling:
http://www.tvtome.com/Coupling_US/
The show follows the lives of six friends, some of whom are dating, some of whome used to date and some of whom are looking to date each other.
That setup sounds a little like a certain other hit comedy on NBC, and in fact some at the network are describing "Coupling" as "'Friends' with sex." "
I loved it. It has gotten some bad press, about not being as funny as the British original, as being the new Friends. And yeah, it was a lot like Friends. But Friends has gotten stale and this seemed fresh to me. The storyline was really funny, I liked the chemistry between the characters, etc. It is going to be a definite watch for me.
Miss Match:
http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-17081/
"Alicia Silverstone stars as Kaite in this charming new drama who is a sharp divorce attorney in her father's law firm and by night has a knack for matchmaking, which she considers a hobby until a socialite bride credits Kate for her romantic success in the press and word of her talent spreads. Soon, to the dismay of her father, Sid,and her reluctant legal partner Nick she is juggling the conflicting worlds of divorce and true love. With her best friend Victoria at her side, Kate is determined to bring a little romance into her world, perhaps finding her own true love in the process."
This was cute. Not great, but then, I like Alicia Silverstone. lol So I will probably end up watching it a good majority of the time. It was funny, but not knock-me-upside-the-head with laughter.
Lyon's Den:
http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-16747/
"Legal drama staring and produced by Rob Lowe. Lowe is an idealistic attorney looking to make his mark on the world apart from his powerful, state senator father."
Honestly, about halfway through, I turned it off. It was BORING to me. I like Rob Lowe (cutie...). But I just couldn't get into the show at all. Then again, I don't like West Wing either and this has a kind of similar feel for me, so...
Fox:
Tru Calling:
http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-17237/
"Tru Davies has just graduated from New York University and is planning on going to medical school. After her internship at a hospital falls through, she has to take a job at a morgue as an attendant working the graveyard shift. On her first night on the job, she hears the voice of a murdered woman, and the next day she awakes to re-live that same day. She tries to prevent the woman from being murdered while trying to fix other problems in her life."
I LOVED this show! I love Eliza Dushku (Faith, from BTVS) and this just was great. It's like Run Lola Run, for those that have seen that. Someone should get the girl a bike, I swear! But it was funny, interesting, and there is a sexy guy, so... ;)
The O.C.
http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-16960/
"The O.C., otherwise known as Orange County, California, is an idyllic paradise – a wealthy, harbor-front community where everything and everyone appears to be perfect. But beneath the surface is a world of shifting loyalties and identities, of kids living secret lives, hidden from their parents, and of parents living secret lives, hidden from their children."
There is lots more, but you can read it. This actually premieres on 8/5... This was actually a LOT better than I anticipated. The kid that plays Ryan Atwood, the main character, is so damned likeable. He's a tough, gruff, kid with a really really good person underneath. I loved it and can't wait to see the rest of the season.
Skin:
http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-16767/
"A modern-day Romeo and Juliet set against an adult film industry backdrop. The daughter of a porn industry mogul falls in love with a district attorney whose quest is to take down the porn king.
From FOX.com:
SKIN is about sex and race. SKIN is about politics. And most of all SKIN is about skin: complexion, beauty, desire, attraction, obsession, and prejudice in contemporary Los Angeles. SKIN is shot through with black comedy, passion, white-collar crime, scandal, naked ambition, and action. But at heart, it's a story of forbidden love."
*melt* This is my personal favorite, but for personal reasons. :) My new avatar is a screen capture from the show. It was definitely a lot better than I had anticipated. I didn't think I was going to like it at all and instead, I can't wait for the season to start to watch more.
That's basically it. There are a few other odds and ends but none really worth mentioning. :)
