I feel the same way about Cable TV companies and I don't even have cable. But at least there are alterntaives to the cable companies, like discontinuing their service.

they charge you way too much for tickets, charge you outrageous fees, and charge you inexplicably HIGH shipping and handling rates that arent secure at all.

plus on top of that, they dont give you seating choices, and the ones they give you are crappyass LAWN seats.
im talking PRESALE here, not a week later. and its within the first 2 minutes too! you KNOW im at least early for tickets. and after a day later its not even sold out yet.

(?) they always give me a choice of seating, or at least from what is available. sometimes only the lawn seats are available.
i dunno chosen, i have never had a problem with them. they hafta charge above the actual ticket price and make some money themselves. plus it is convenient as hell to order off the net.
what were you trying to get tickets to?

As I mentioned in the S/NSS forum, take a look at TicketMaster's "privacy" policy:

By purchasing a ticket, or completing a registration form so that you are able to access a purchase page for a ticket, to a concert, game or other event on the Site, you consent (i.e., you opt-in) to us sharing your personal information with the venues, promoters, artists, teams, leagues and other third parties associated with that concert, game or other event ("Event Partners"). We cannot offer you a separate opportunity to opt-out, or not to consent, to our sharing of your personal information with them. Event Partners may use your personal information in accordance with their own privacy policies, and may consequently use your personal information to contact you and may share your personal information with others.

OHHHHH, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. i see why you were angry now.
"By the Way" i like 'em, too.

Standing in line
To see the show tonight
And there’s a light on
Heavy glow
By the way I tried to say
I’d be there... waiting for
Dani the girl
Is singing songs to me
Beneath the marquee... overload

but i wouldn't pay $160 a pop per tix -- no way.

yes, i think they hold out on the good seats...

my co-worker has tried to purchase tickets before... always crappy seats.

he checks back a day or two after he buys tickets, and all the good seats start showing up.

honestly, thats a nice and tricky way to FORCE more business for them...

unfortunately, i dont think it'll last if enough people get pissed at it.

i think you're right about them holding back the better tix.

basically, they know hardcore fans will start buying as soon as the tix go on sale, and many will buy whether they are getting crappy seats or not.

casual fans, on the other hand, may not even know tix are on sale for a couple weeks. if they go online and see that there's nothing but seats in the nosebleeds or on the lawn, they'll say screw it. but if they get tix in the first 20 rows, then they'll buy.

so it helps venues sell out.

another strategy that i forgot to mention in the s/nss thread on this topic is to just buy tix the day of the show at the venue or from a scalper. obviously, this won't necessarily work if it's a really hot show, but it often does. even for total sell-outs, there's usually a chunk of tickets, some of them very good, that are released the day of the show. often, the venue box office opens at 3 or 4 in the afternoon, and if you're there when it opens you can score some excellent seats.

also, scalpers can be a good source of tix. again, if it's a hot show, prices may be way inflated. but often, you'll find them trying to unload tix below face because they have too many. or, if you don't mind waiting until after the opener is playing and they're really starting to sweat, you can usually haggle a good deal from them.

and you gotta love the way ticketmaster mails your tickets. geez. sure it is an inconspicuous envelope, but regular mail for several hundred dollars worth of tickets?! so lame, especially since they charge a hefty handling fee.

and as far as going to the venue to buy tix, i agree, but i often travel for Dave Matthews Band concerts, so I have to get them through ticketmaster or the Warehouse (DMB Fan Club pre-sale). so box office is not always an option.
