probably get kinda personal but...I've been seeing a lot of commercials for these lately, and not only that...remember in the past few months....hearing about ricky williams and that Raiders player who started taking these drugs...
then that born in the 1900-70's post made me think a little more...
are these pills really that.....I don't know..
it seems like they're jsut a fix it all to make everyone "normal". and perhaps it's necessary for some people to use it, but... i dunno... i'm not a doctor, nor is this a subject that should be broken down to just sweeping generalizations, but it just seems like an easy way to...i dunno... make excuses for ourselves, and allow us to blame our actions on chemicals....

I've never taken any of those. Although when i was 12 this doc diagnosed me as having ADD and prescribed dexedrin and paxil(i never took a single one). While i do think its way over prescribed, it does have its uses.

paxil is for anti-depression...however it's half-life is so short that people usually go through severe withdrawell even if they just miss one dose. sometimes they start acting really weird when they're out of them.

Your doctor gave you Paxil for ADHD? What was he smoking? Paxil is used mainly to treat depression. It has been also used to treat panic disorders, OCD, anxiety disorders, and Post traumatic stress disorder. However, I've never heard of it being used to treat ADHD. Dexedrin makes sense... that is a drug for ADD.
As for my opinion on antidepressants... they do have their uses. However, they are way over prescribed... partly because idiots want them and doctors are too cowardly to say no. They're becoming social drugs now... Same thing for drugs to tread ADHD... it's gotten so popular to diagnose ADHD that everybody is diagnosing ADHD. The other reason why they're so popular is because some of these diseases are defined so badly that it's hard to say whether someone has the disease or not. I remember in my neurosci. class being pissed off because the clinical scenario they gave us for ADHD fit most of the children that I've met.

i've been aware of the various flavors of add/adhd, its different effects along with treatments for most of my life now.
A couple years ago ADD was all the rage. If your kid looked out the window too long they'd throw him some ritalin.
Nowadays its all about ADHD for some reason. Childhood playfulness has become hyperactivity. Poor kids are getting drugged up before they even know what hit them.
