anyone who knows me knows that i am a terrible pack rat. i save everything.
with moving, however, i'm being forced to throw stuff out, including all my old stuff, maxim, fhm, rolling stone, and sports illustrated magazines :bawl: it pains me to throw them away, but what else can i do? :(

Doctor's office or any place with a waiting room would probably take the SI and Rolling Stone mags...

actually, i wanted to try to ebay the magazines -- they have some (albeit limited) value, but i just ran out of time. at this point, time is of the essence, and a trip to the dumpster is quicker than anything else :(

yeah...I totally hate throwing things away, since I just moved to cali, I haven't been living in a house, because I only go to school here. so all I pretty much do is move all my stuff from dorm to dorm. And It's all the memories from highschool and 2 years of college, that I lug around with me

the first 5 issues or so are really valuable - i saw them on ebay for $35-$50.
but i had to throw out the FHM with anna kournikova on the cover. it still [ains me to think about it :heh:

When I moved out for lawschool, I threw out over 15 years of National Geographics! A whole bunch of Aquarium Fish Magazines, where I had letters published. As well as a large portion of my library since it wasnt worth the added weight to ship them.
There was also a whole bumch of things that we sold to an auction house because of the weight to ship them compared to the price of buying new ones out here. Of course, once I got out here, most of the stuff has not been replaced since the size of this house is 1/2 the size of our old one.

I know what you mean. I'm a huge pack-rat, including on the computer. Though I've been training myself to be less of a packrat. I think I'm getting better.

When I moved in May, I threw out all my old nintendo games before checking ebay. Now I cant visit ebay without getting teary eyed.

Man, haven't you guys heard of public libraries or Goodwill?
It seemed like a full quarter of the decent books my public library had on its shelves were from donations.

Why would I donate things when i can get paid money for them? I paid for them....so if I cant keep things I would rather get some money back for it rather than just donate it.
Things like old computer monitors, printers, clothes and the like get donated...because for the most part there is no way I am getting anything for them and it gets us a tax deduction.

Throw the stuff out! My wife is a terrible pack rat, but even she admits that it's much nicer to be clutter free.

I didn't know that trash cans paid good money. By saying that you "threw them out," it implies that you trashed them. Why not just donate them to a library instead of a dumpster. Now, if you meant that you sold them, that is a different story, but sold and thrown out are two different things.

Why in the name of love why!?! You could have given them to me!!!!!!!
I'm a packrat too, but I want the stuff, that's why I got in the first place so I'm not about to throw it away.

OK, let me clarify...I sold a large portion of my library and the National Geographics to a book reseller. Then I had an auction house take the remaining books. The rest of the magazines went to the great library in the sky!
