View Full Version : Win2k Excel2k OLEAUT32.DLL problem
I'm on windows 2000 and am using excel 2000. Unfortunately, for some reason I have an old OLEAUT32.dll (version 2.20). The correct version is 2.40. I cannot seem to get the repair/reinstall to install the correct version, and I cannot copy over the old one because the file is always in use, even when starting from safe mode. I cannot start off a startdisk because startdisks do not recognize NTFS.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
You could boot using a linux boot disk then mount the hard drive to a directory and copy the file across.

Hmm, linux... argh. <-- no experience at all with it.
Well....You could always install win2k on another computer then install the hard drive you are having problems with as a slave. Copy the files over and you are set.

Apex has no experience with Linux? http://www.agn3d.com/forum3d/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif

Someone needs to download slackware 7.0 and get some skillz.
If Apex knew linux he could have it as a second boot option on that win2k machine and his problems with be fixed in with a couple quick reboots.

Yeah. I need a personal slave I think. Hmm...

APEX did you ever get this solved? Easiest way is to boot up with just a dos prompt.Or in windows safe mode under dos prompt Goto you windows\system folder and type regsvr32 /u oleaut32.dll . Then copy the new one in its place and then type. regsvr32 oleaut32.dll . Reboot and that nagging error message is gone. I had this problem in winNT when i ran a proggy that was only for win 95. oops http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
haven't seen win2000. Hopefully it should have the command

There is no pure dos for Win2k. I did finally get it solved. I had another install of win2k on another hard drive. Used it as the master and booted that OS. Then simply copied the file, and swapped the hard drive back out. Sheesh, what a pain, but at least it's done.
