If you're a male, the chances of you developing a prostate problem in your lifetime is high -- it is being studied to see that if every man lives long enough, he will eventually develop prostate problems. The reason you have to get a rectal exam is that the prostate is guarded by so many other parts of your body, that through the back is the easiest way to feel if there is a problem.

Well, the quack physician at college did a rectal exam a few months ago, and that is TERRIBLE!

So I was nervous about seeing a real physician today, but it was a female doctor  ... luckily she didn't do the rectal exam because she thought it was something else.

So the whole point here is this: I'm reeeeeally thankful I got through today without the burden of that stupid exam. And you should avoid it at all costs!

SKI > Rare that they perform the exam on someone early 20's and glad nothing was found.

"And you should avoid it at all costs" That cost just may be your life SKI. There are many medical procedures you will face over your lifetime. Few if any are plesant but that it reality.

My Dad had prostate cancer > his dad had prostate cancer and there is a very very good chance that I too will someday.

Prevention and early detection of most diseases is of HIGH importance.

Since I turned 50, my doc has been pushing me to get the usual exam (much beyond the standard in-the-office quick check) for polyps, etc. I'll probably get it one of these days, as it is generally regarding as a good thing for men my age to have checked.

lol... when I say avoid it at all costs, I mean the obvious -- don't ask for it every time you go in for a cold :P

There is a specific blood test which will show if you have prostate problems. I am not sure if the physical test is also necessary.
