Fatal Exemption Error...

The SCSI is in a ISA port... although it is true that SB is in slot 4 I have tried it in slot 3 and the same problem occured...

I have a problem with a Fatal Exemption Error... I have a BE6-II, Pent 550, 192 meg ram, Diamond 16 meg VC, PCI Modem, SB Live Value, and a SCSI card... I am using Win98se.
It seems to me that the problem lie with the sound card... The error occures when windows is loading and when I shut it off... It shows that it has no conflicts. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall, even as far to format and reinstall. What can I do next... all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Have you tried using different PCI slots for the SCSI card and sound card? I had a problem with an Intel NIC PCI card on my fourth slot but it works great on my third slot. That could be a problem...

BTW, Apex thanks for the heads up on the two Intel NICs they're great, just waiting for my IP address from my ISP now.

Run scandisk and SFC first to check for errors. What are your IRQ's for scsi and sound card. Seems like scsi will grab the open irq, but normally defaults (most times) to IRQ 11. I am assuming you have all scsi devices (e.g. hard drive, cd-rom). What is the brand name of the scsi card? Never heard of fatal exemption error? Is it Fatal Exception at 0E,06, or 0c? (The BSoD right?)

How many devices on scsi?, how many ide?, what are they?

Good Question Uranus...SCSI card definately can either make or break a system http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/eek.gif I tried a tekram, needles to say it reamed my system. Took it out, and went to an adaptec with the same configuration. No more windows problems! http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif Anyways-back to your problem- here is how you solve it: Number one: reformat using fdisk, delete primary and re-create. Number two: just install your hard drive, floppy, and video. DO NOT ADD SCSI CARD OR ANY OTHER DEVICES OR CARDS unitil you get windows to load and operate normally. If you have onboard video, use that until your system behaves normally. Add one card in at a time. Thouroughly testing windows and most of its functionality for stability. Follow these steps and you will find the culprit. I also noticed you have added some ram. Check the latencies and clock speeds. Your board may have issues with mixing ram speeds. It wouldnt be a bad idea to load windows with your biggest dimm. (i.e just load with a single 64mb stick, that way you know you have one stable speed). If everything works ok, add some more ram. Here, you also may find a culprit. Add and subtract and test, it sucks I know but that is the only way with computers.
