more problem with IE

Hi all,
After my 2 crashes/hour record with netscape, I switched to IE 5 which was in my computer the whole time but never used it. Once in a while, whenever i want to go to a new page, a message saying "detecting proxy setting" shows up and stayed that way until couple second and then the page started to load. Oh yeah, the first thing i have to do is confirming that i am online everytime i open IE apparently it doesn't think i am connected. The situation gets worse after I installed DSL last week, the detecting proxy thingy stayed for at least 5 min before loading at below 1kbps (slower than my modem...)at EVERY site, including the awesome gotapex site. Then i changed to netscape 6 with good and bad results.. the speed is still 3k/s (actual) from a single source. Apparently a bad choice of switching to a BETA browser, I tried to uninstall it, and guess what, no uninstall program.. argh. Now i am stuck with a slower-than dial-up DSL and two non-functioning browsers. Oh yeah, trying to reinstall IE, the stupid windows update kept on doing this "resuming" downloading components loops that never finished the update. After 4 tries, I gave up and stayed with the buggy un-uninstallable netscape. Any takes from the experts, everyone?

who is your DSL providor? You'll probably have to make settnig adjustments within IE and the dsl modem. Check out thier web page. Most providors have a help section. As far as IE5.0 goes it may be better if you get you dsl working first. Once it is then you can download IE. If you received any software from your DSL providor e.g. cd software drivers. IE should be on there just browse it and search to see. Run the setup program under the IE folder to run just that installation.

Make sure you have proxy usage unchecked in the advanced tab for ie5.5 I dont think that your problem is browser related. I think ther might be a configuration issue with your dsl. I would definitely remove netscape immediately. work with one browser, once that works load netscape. Also you can uninstall the IE 5.5 beta and windows will actually ask you if you would like to go back to your previous version of IE5.0 and it wil cleanly do this for you. I have doe it twice alread myself. Use the add remove programs tab-it will ask you if you would like to reinstall 5.5 , repair it , or remove and reinstall original configuration. If your DSL company is as finicky as mine, they wont support your issue if you are using beta browsers (can't blame them). Thats how to nuke 5.5 beta if you want to. Try to access the internet in other ways besides you browser to test speed. (I.E. ICQ file transfers, FTP, etc.) This will at at least tell you if you have a browser issue or a modem or connection issue. Good luck dude-sky

Thanks guys, the dsl problem is solved after talking to "four" technicians and spent hours listening to elevator music while connecting to tech support. Turned out that they never adjusted my adapter info so I was using a "ghost" ip the whole time. I installed communicator 4.7 and deleted the netscape 6 folder manually since there is no uninstall program. IE still behaves the same way even though I am not connected to a proxy. The update looping problem persists and the repair option gave me error message. The uninstall option is grayed out so basically i am still stucked with a useless browser. But oh well, netscape is working perfectly and hasn't had a crash yet http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

Glad to hear-but IE5 still is a major part of the OS-I would still reinstall IE5 and then remove it. Just to make sure everything is right.
