Well is it new equipment? Did it work before? Etc. That's a mighty big can of worms you're asking about there; you need to give more information for an answer. :P

i've had my computer for 5yrs.
i turned on the computer and the light came on but not the monitor, mouse and the keyboard.
monitor displays: " no signal "
i use an optical mouse and the light isn't on, that gave me the clue that it wasn't working.
i've tried reconnecting the three and restarting the computer...still not working
I don't know what's wrong

If it's that old than maybe the battery on the mb died. Usually it's a cr2032 battery. It looks like a coin and can usually be found at stores like K-Mart, Longs or Radio Shack.
If that doesn't work : Dude (dudette?), you're getting a Dell.

Can you hear the fan running on the powersupply? Could be it's dying and not giving enough power to run anything.

as long as there is no problem with your motherboard, yes, you should be able to retrieve your information.

Sounds like your powersupply bit the dust. I'd pick up and new one and swap it out. Buy it from a store like BestBuy with a decent return policy, just in case.

PS are so cheap at Dealsonic.com I would go there. I have bought quite a few of their less than $20 specials. Any retail store you go you will sell a crappy one for about 40-60 dollars.
