I have a job where I work as hard or as little as I want. I am known to take an entire week off at random. When I do that, I beat myself up badly, nothing but regret, so I try not to anymore. We all have to grow up sometime, right.

So 2 weeks ago, I really had nothing to do, I worked like one day out of the home office, and the rest I just answered the phone when it rang. Eh....

So last week, feeling like I needed to switch gears, kick some assics, I worked Mon. and Tues. out of the office and really got stuff acomplished.

Wedensday, to my surprise, my boss came into town. Which means long long hours, and intensity of work goes up 10-fold. So, He and I worked together on that Wed. and Thursday. I really felt great that Thursday night when he headed back to his home port, like i had kicked some major ***.

So Friday comes, and I have to do a little more work, no problem, I did it and felt good, like I was a hardworking Americian again, just doing my job like regular people 5 days a week.

Well, Friday evening, Boss calls, *gulp* He has to come back to my area for a large sale, in an attempt to buy a large 200 acre farm. (I'm in Real Estate) He asks me if I care to go with him? This is where the laziness comes in.....He asked me, didn't tell me to come with him. I thought, 'you know what, I worked all week, I'm taking Saturday off.. .' I somehow thought i deserved it.

I spent my Saturday doing little if anything, just hung out, took an afternoon nap, played some video games, spent time with my family.

Well Saturday evening another employee calls, just updating me....My worst fears realized, my boss had bought the entire property for just over a half million. Great for the company, very very bad for me.

You see, having showed up Saturday, been with him, I would have been rewarded with a 3% commision on just over a half million dollars! Don't be lazy like me, please do the math.

Now, feel my pain. 2 hours on a lazy Saturday cost me that much money! The moral to this fable is simple, this is where laziness gets you. Not only in work but in life too. Hard work and determination equals success.

Amen to that brother. I've been in similar situations myself and the moral of the story is always the same, Hard work feels good and pays good (in more ways than just cash).
