Hey everyone! I just wanted to tell you that i am getting the new Dell 1703FP 17inch LCD monitor thanks to the great stacked deal that GotApex supplied! It looks great on paper, much better than the 1702FP it replaces, which was not a bad contender itself (if i remember correctely). I'm a bit nervous now, because I've never seen the monitor in person, and it might come DoA or with dead/stuck pixels in the middle of the screen, but i sure hope not!

How have ur experiences been with Dell UltraSharp monitors? Worst case scenario--if something IS wrong and i need to RMA, is the process painful and drawn-out or quick and painless? Any info until I get my monitor would be appreciated. I can't wait! =D

John.

I've only had to return one time and it was EASY. I called them up, got the RMA and got a credit a couple days after they received it.

...well, two days after i ordered the screen....it's here~!

the screen and stand itself is sooooo perfect! not ONE dead pixel or subpixel (verified by a monitor test) edge to edge equal luminance (quite bright too!) and the 600:1 contrast ratio it claims might not be off by too much; i'm running it at the default nits level (~50%) and it already matches how bright i ran my samsung CRT at. the response time, although only rated at 25ms, is more than sufficiently adequate to run UT2003 and pretty much any HD video i could give it.

the only problem was/is...after the first instance my screen saver went on, somehow the OSD and monitor lock got all crazy. a logo of a padlock would display itself ontop of wutever was on my screen and it would not come off no matter wut i did. then at times it'd turn to an open padlock icon (but still be stuck ontop of the screen). and, on rare occasion, the OSD would appear and...u guessed it...be stuck on the screen. i couldn't get it off no matter what. so after some button mashing, the monitor finally reponded as it should and it's working fine until now. might anyone know what went wrong?? the only thing i can think of is some type of short circuit within the screen? because i dunno how i caused or "fixed" it, i could accidently mess up the OSD again and not be so lucky to fix it another time. as a last question, to anyone with dell monitors....when u turn on and off the screen do u hear the (dum-dum) screen on/off sound ring twice? or just once each time u toggle the screen on and off.

well, i hope i can figure out wut was/is wrong with the monitor...but i am sooooooo happy with teh screen. hope to hear from u all soon!
