What was the thing with the suitcase full of money? Where did it come from?

Why did someone send the money to his ex-wife overseas?

Why did the woman's boyfriend end up overseas and what did the play at the end of the movie have to do with anything?

Gale's lawyer and the woman's boyfriend..how were they connected?

I forget where the money came from but Gale sent the money oversees for his son. The lawyer and the woman's "boyfriend" were connect through the Gale, the boyfriend was an all out anti-death penalty advocate, he was entrusted to deliver the money. I also forget what the play had to do with it

The money came from the magazine in order to interview him. Gale charge $500,000 for the interview. I don't remember the play either.

The play was actually an Italian opera in which a woman kills herself with a sword. The guy was shown crying because it was reminiscent of his "girlfriend" killing herself in opposition of the death penalty.
