You have any music you listen to that they don't normally put on the radio?

I like to listen to some techno-ish music which I haven't ever heard on the radio such as Antiloop, Aphex Twin, Bomfunk MC's, Astral Projection, Cynic Project, Daft Punk, etc. Punk / Ska is another genre i like so i listen to groups like bad religion (i love those guys), lagwagon, mighty mighty bosstones, less than jake, etc. Another good group is nada surf.

I also like japanese music like Glay, Ayumi Hamisaki, Utada Hikaru (i hear she's working on an english album), Do as Infinity, Southern all stars, L'Arc en Ciel, etc. I have no clue why I like it, I just do.

What about you guys?

I have a ton of different music. I like everything from Country, to punk, to classical. It depends what type of mood i'm in. Currently i'm in a Texas song-writer & punk/emo mood. Texas song writer are guys liek Pat Green, Bleu Edmondson, Django Walker wtc... and the punk is Alkaline Trio, Saves The Day, Jealous Sound, The Juliana Theory, Dashboard.

I occasionally listen to KCRW here in SoCal, which is a NPR station. They play a lot of independent artists and up-and-coming artists. Great way to get introduced to a wider variety of music.

by listening to KCRW, I found out about a great band called Royksopp. Apparently, they're Swedish. But if you like Daft Punk, then you'll like Royksopp.

Their remix of Clocks by Coldplay is awesome!

The French group Air is pretty good too.

Don't forget to use internet radio. The latest version of classic winamp comes with a library feature that lets you browse different internet radio stations. Pretty nifty.

yeah KCRW (love that station, and you can listen to a simulcast online too) introduced me to this australian band called Jet. i'm waiting for their album to drop so i can get a better listen to it.

i'm not as knowledgeable about indie rock music in general, altho i do like a few bands off the mainstream radio radar, like Open Hand, Starflyer 59, Ozma, The Get Up Kids, and up until recently, Thrice (since they had a radio hit not too long ago).

but if we're including hip hop and such, i think Outkast is the only group i'm into that gets heavy airplay. it's not so much that i go out of my way to listen to "underground" stuff, it's just that most of mainstream hip hop is what i like to call "club rap" and i just can't stand it. anyway, most of my stuff isn't even that obscure: Black Star, Common, The Roots, Del and Hiero, Company Flow, Blackalicious, Dj Shadow and Quannum, J5, Dead Prez, Big L, and of course my beloved Esthero and Portishead.

but i like whatever sounds good to me, so of course there is some mainstream music i like too. well, maybe not any mainstream hip hop because it's all been all garbage for the past 6-8 years. ;)

For some reason, a majority of the music I listen to never gets heavy radio play... maybe that's why I like it? St. Etienne, Massive Attack, Portishead, Faithless, Stereolab - all excellent bands with much more musical depth than the top 40 swill that plays on the radio every day.

I really don't like the idea of music that's produced to sound like what the recording industry thinks I must like (does that make sense?)

(BTW - I think Royksopp are from Norway, not Sweden)

Pretty much everything I listen to doesn't get radio play. I've been listening to NOFX almost completely lately, along with Aphex Twin and The Streets.

Being a metal head, nothing I listen to gets played on the radio. Sirius does have a metal station which I'd like to check out some day.

I, like coleslaw, don't listen to music that has much mass appeal. I like death metal, Industrial, and punk mostly, but when I venture out of my realm i'm known to listen to almost anything (O Brother Where Art Thou? soundtrack anyone? :P )

That Casualties, Blanks 77, Project 86, Pennywise (ok the get radioplay), Cradle of Filth, Opeth, Messugah <horribly misspelled), KMDFM, Lords of Acid, Leather Strip, Nitzer Ebb (Join In The Chant!), Static-X.

I've been trying to venture more into the realms of bands that people have heard of lately, can u tell? :P
