go make yourself throw up after you eat a big meal that's pretty unhealthy? i do on occasion after i go out to eat, especially when i'm on a business trip. i go get stuffed on the company, feel too full and regret doing so, and then....
is it unhealthy? do i have a problem?

uh...bulimia
by dictionary.com
An eating disorder, common especially among young women of normal or nearly normal weight, that is characterized by episodic binge eating and followed by feelings of guilt, depression, and self-condemnation. It is often associated with measures taken to prevent weight gain, such as self-induced vomiting, the use of laxatives, dieting, or fasting.
it's very unhealthy for you. you may want to talk to someone about it.

Yeah, I don't think thats too healthy. You shouldnt throw up after any meal, even if you get stuffed. Unless you closed down an all you can eat raw bar. In that case :puke: away.

Here's my take. Don't let your mind--or someone else's mind for that matter--tell your body what to do. Unless your body is telling you to throw up (in that case, it will be really hard for your mind to say no), don't.
Oh, and I agree with bulimia boy.... Just because the food is put in front of you does not mean that you have to eat it all. Of course, who am I to talk? I eat everything. :dodgy: I just don't feel bad about it.

I agree you shouldn't be engaging in this behavior and shouldn't stuff yourself.

Always try something it before you put it in your mouth. If its good then enjoy it. If its not good then just leave it.

i read that definition but i don't do the binge eating part or feel guilty or depressed. i just sometimes feel too full and feel silly for eating too much.
hmmm....maybe i should think about it a little more.

i don't think it's right to do that cheapb@stard. it could lead to a bigger problem. sounds pre-bulemic to me or evenly what they may call mildly bulemic. JUST DON'T EAT SO MUCH SILLY!

sigh....i know. i lost a lot of weight last fall and winter, about 25 pounds, and gained about 10 back. my weight has stabilized at about 15 pounds below what i was. in addition, i have a big mountain bike race coming up on november 8 and i need to drop another 10 or so to be competitive in my age group. (and i'm sure the fact that i'm going to be 30 next may doesn't have anything to do with it =)

plus, in addition to potentially leading to bulimia, throwing up often just isn't good for you in general because of the stomach acids. bad for your teeth, bad for your throat, etc. when you throw up, all those acids contained in your stomach end up coming up too, and eating at your body along the way! your stomach has a particular lining that helps protect it, but your throat and mouth don't have the same protection.
Just because someone else is paying for the food, etc doesn't mean you NEED to loose self control and make a pig out of yourself.

ok you know, its funny I had a dream last night where that other lady on the show "Good Morning LA" on Fox (not Jill Barbary [sp?], the other older one) did a strip tease on the show and ended up revealing that she had 3 pairs of nipples (6 total), causing me to vomit like crazy.
After which I woke up, and said WTF?!? :hmm:
oh and about your eating disorder... don't gorge yourself. take it eeaaassyyy! enjoy your meal. savor every bite.

I wish I had decided to vomit last night. Damn heartburn woke me up way too many times. I should know better than to eat when its late.

Did wonders for me... all I did was say "Doc, I get bad heartburn and I've always gotten it" and we tried it out -- sleep like a rock now

it's not that i stuff myself. it's more that when i eat at home my wife makes more sensible meals. when i go out to eat, they have bread, an appetizer, entree, dessert, salad. i don't usually eat a huge steak or anything. also, i usually eat late when i do so for business. then i get back to the hotel and am ready for bed but i'm feeling full and feel like i don't really need the food.

gluttony... i think thats what it was called. the romans used to gorge themselves on food at the coliseum etc and throw up in troughs that lined the field...
have a little self constraint and stop gorging yourself man. i go to a q and throw down.... i eat enough for 2 people, but i hit the gym later and cut back for the rest of the week.
1st step is admitting it... :)

Quit making yourself throw up. First of all... it does sound kind of like bulemia (or pretty close) so if you have a problem stopping yourself from doing that in the future, you might want to see a doctor. The reason why it's so serious beyond psyche issues (which at this stage, I don't even know if you have) is that you can mess up your electrolytes, get really, really bad heartburn, rupture your esophagus, cause GI bleeding, increase your risk of cancer, etc... overall... vomiting is NOT a good thing.

it doesnt take many purging episodes to throw your electrolytes off..which in turn can cause cardiac arrest. Please stop now before your'e stopped for good. Seek Counseling. This is a problem.

my answer, no. :D
i don't think throwing up after a meal is a good idea. on a couple occasions (buffets), i ate way too much and consequently threw up, but even that i regret. i definitely don't think you should purposely throw up for any reason. if you're worried about your food intake just try to exercise self-control/discipline and eat a little less. and if not, eat up.
