Hello:

I just upgraded to a new Athlon 800 with FCI motherboard. (the cpu is the slot one, not the thunderbird).

i got
voodoo 3000,
ultraplex 40 max plextor,
4x8 plextor crwriter
and running win2k

It freezes often and it's getting on my nerves. Sometimes, when I shut down, I see a white screen and freezes there... I have to press restart button all the time. I have reinstalled win2k over several time, and I updated all my drivers. Any suggestion on how to fix it or detect the probelms? Appreciate it.

How much of a power supply do you have lolpc? I would use at least a 300w AMD certified power supply in an Athlon system since Athlons really use a lot of juice. Are you overclocking anything?

I have 300 W power supply and I am not overclocking at all....I just have cool master dual fans cpu fan (2 extra case fans).

Hmm..wonder whether it's still the heat, one fan is blowing in, and one is blowing out.

Open up the side of your case and let a big fan blow in there lolpc. Hopefully the case fans are set up in that one of them sucks in cool air at the bottom of the case in the front while the other blows out hot air at the back of the case. It might be the Voodoo 3 overheating also.

See if there's <A href="http://www.fica.com/products/motherboard/SlotA/SD11.stm" target="_new" title="FIC SD11 motherboard page">new bios for your FIC SD11 motherboard</a>.

FIC motherboards aren't known for being very good. That motherboard in particular has been problematic.

Thankx for the follow up:

I am getting tired of my computer freezing on me. I have 2 extra fans beside the power supply one, in and one out. I also attach a small fan on the heat sink of voodoo 3000.

Do you have any suggestion on a good cpu fan? a good w/ a good price? Thankx.

Appreciate it =)

Yeah, generally AMD cpu's run hot, anywhere from 90-110 F. Sooo you want to definitely cool it down.

Check out 2cooltek (http://2cooltek.safeshopper.com/2/cat2.htm?84)

I recommend this one: http://2cooltek.safeshopper.com/2/86.htm?84

I can't really reommend the gorb, since those have been having problems supposedly. But the alpha is quite price for a heatsink/fan.

That's pretty hot. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/eek.gif That alpha slot one cpu cooler spigidygak recommended is the one I would use if I had an alpha.

You can also download motherboard monitor and see how hot it says your cpu is. http://members.brabant.chello.nl/~a.vankaam/mbm/
