you ordered something online and when it's delivered you see they put something in you didn't order or get charged for so.... do you keep it or send it back?

Doing the right thing is fine and all but if they expect me to make a trip to the post office just because they made a mistake....Well then they are underestimating my laziness.

First off, did they send what they were supposed to? Secondly, I would keep it, unopened, until i received my next statement that the originally purchased item was used for. if it wasn't charged, I'd keep it. If it was charged, you should call them up and tell them they sent it to you and you didn't order it.

Also make sure that the delivery recipet is in your favor.

Keep it. Consider it a tax refund.

finally, someone that has the same dilemnas i have.

on one hand, i am a pretty moral person. on the other hand, i am an "opportunist" of the highest order.

in this situation, i usually wrestle with the decision for a while. usually, i try to work it so that i inform the other party of their mistake while at the same time convincing them it's not worth their time and effort to correct it.

for instance...i was promoted to a new job this year. after 3-4 paychecks, i noticed that my raise was not on the check. i called HR and told them. it took the HR guy a while to find the raise and he said, "oh, here it is. you will now be making x amount." i told him, "umm, that's not the amount i agreed to." "he told me he was looking at the acceptance letter and that if i had a problem with it, i should take it up with my boss." the thing was, he was quoting me about $150 more/month than i was offered.

i struggled and struggled with what to do. i eventually did tell my boss about hr paying me more than he had offered. he laughed and said, "you want to give it back?" of course i offered the predictable response and i now have the extra money without the worry of my boss finding out i make more than he offered, and knew about the mistake without telling him.

oh, i completely agree with merlin. it's not your fault so don't pack it up and take it to the post office. if they want it back badly enough, they'll send someone to get it.

At my last job they accidently sent deposited into my account my paycheck twice. It was a small business and I knew it was better to jsut be honest in that situation because there was a paper trail. I told my boss and she said thanks and it got auto matically jacked out of my bank.

As far as this goes, if it is from an individaul online, like someone on ebay, I would send it back to them. If it was a corporation F&%$ 'em. their mistake my gain.

BTW, what and or how much was the item worth?

it was from a company. it was a mock tweed jacket by Ex Officio (For Men) that supposedly retails for about a hundred bucks but they sell it for $36.
