anyways this was supposed to be some sort of a sequel/spinoff/related film to Desperado. i never saw that film, which i probably will find in the $5.88 bargain bin at walmart. :P ill prolly go see it then.
It is actually the third part of a trilogy that starts off with El Mariachi, then Desperado, and finally Once Upon A Time in Mexico. The thing is, don't count on finding them for $5.88 in any bargin bin--unless, of course, the clerk/manager is really stupid--because they have quite a cult following. I think you can get an El Mariachi/Desperado 2-pack for about $20 though.

Apparently, they are also considering doing a spinoff of the trilogy with Johnny Depp's character as the focus.

the cult followig you speak off may actually have pushed it to #1 at the box office this weekend. :)
Well, with the likes of David Spade's Dicky movie and Cabin Fever, or whatever the hell it is called, it's no surprise to me. The only real competition out there is Matchstick Men.

i just thought Desperado was just a more hollywood version of El Mariachi, many people seem to think the same...

That's quite possible. I've been meaning to watch El Mariachi, but I haven't had the chance yet. Since it was done on such a low budget, they might have wanted to go back and revisit it with a newer version of the story. However, with that said, I'm not sure how much of a story there actually was. I think the emphasis was always on the action instead. Of course, the ironic part is--from what I've been told--, the acting was far better in El Mariachi than Desperado. And that is with a bunch of no-names and rookie actors. Then again, it is Banderas that we are talking about. :heh:

i was under the impression that desperado was the "sequel" to el mariachi.
and OUATIM is supposed to be the third installment.
i love how enrique iglesias is in the movie. and yes, johnny depp did a great job. i love how the previews/trailers to the movie gave me a semi-false impression that Johnny Depp was going to be the "bad guy"

and OUATIM is supposed to be the third installment. yeah, that's what i thought too. that is to say, i don't necessarily think "Once Upon A Time" was meant to be the closer in a trilogy, but only another sequel.

i was expecting enrique iglesias' charcter to get shot or something. the fact that he didnt was a pure "hollywood" move (predictable ending, maybe spinning off his character in the future? ) they know the crowd draw may be bigger if they can expect him to be in the next film if theres a spinoff/sequel.
I didn't really expect that though. In Desperado, Banderas' buddies do get shot...but in this one i think they were focusing more on the plot twists and closing up all the gaps they had left open. It really wouldn't have added much to the movie had enrique or the other guy been killed.

Rented the El Mariachi Desperado double feature a while back. Both were good. El Mariachi was great. It explains a lot. And Desperado is a sequal... they did some scene over, but it is like the continued adventures.
