im running win98se and whenever i install the drivers for my sound card it wont boot up all the way, once i go through the logon thing my mouse stops moving and the hd led goes on and stays on.
my system includes:
k7 650@850 (i already put it back at 650 to make sure the overclocking isnt the problem)
asus k7m
128mb pc100 sdram
cl tnt2u
diamond mx300 (i tried a montego II quadzilla and it still had the same lockup problems)
uh.. hp 8100i cdrw.. cl 52cdrom
3com nic
i think thats it...
Just to clarify...
Do you mean that the computer works fine without the sound drivers? Did you unload the MX300 drivers? Did Windows PnP autodetect the card? What version drivers are you using?
You need to download the Vortex2 drivers from Aureal. The Diamond drivers are worthless.

how do you explain this Fuz????
"i tried a montego II quadzilla and it still had the same lockup problems"
I'm not sure about the montego, but I know with the Asus K7M and the MX300 the diamond drivers are worthless. When I used them the computer would lock up every time I tried to play any sound. I installed the Aureal drivers and everything is working Extremely well. I would have to guess that there was some other sort of problem with the montego II.
The only other thing I can think of is that the sound card(s) is causing a resource conflict that isn't being noticed by windows until you enable the card by loading the drivers.

yes, if i unload the drivers and take out the card the computer works perfectly (without sound ofcourse), windows does autodetect the card and im using the diamond drivers that came with the card
Things you can do idkfa:
First turn off the onboard audio if your K7m board has it.
Second switch the card to another PCI slot.
Third <a href="http://www.aureal.com/newa3d/index.asp?changenav=geta3d&change2=geta3d/hardware/index.asp?product=sq2500.asp" target="_new">download the latest Aureal reference drivers</a> Please don't use Diamond's drivers as they are pathetically old!
