We were talkign about ignorant urban legends in my sociology class yesterday and the professor told us that when she was in middle school the rumor was that if you douched with coca cola after sex you wouldn't get pregnant. The class collectively made a "eww" and then was dead silent. It was one of the more hilarious moments of the day.

I remember reading about 15 years ago about a study into this exact same topic. They had a group of sexually active women douche with coca-cola after sex to prevent pregnancy - it had something like 80% success. They theorized that it's success was due to the acidity of coca-cola (the little guys like the pH around 7). The magazine where I read this then joked about how they should check into if coca cola classic or the new coke was used (that's how old it was).

If I remember from the study (it's been a while) the next couse of action was to investigate the effectiveness of other acidic colas and diet colas to see what the impact was of the sugar that is so prevalent in most sodas.
The key thing is to maintain the acidic environment and carbonated sodas do that quite well. The whole vinegar and water thing is quite bad though since it kills most of the benficial bacteria inside and can lead to PID.
Also, I would wonder about the carbonation - since dissolved CO2 gas would be liberated from the cola being warmed up inside, wouldn't that lead to significant queefing?

Our teacher used Sprite as an example not Coke. Maybe the lemon flavor adds a bit to the pH.

Members used to be allocated a 50 private messages with 1000 characters per message. That limit was raised a while ago to 80 PMs with 2000 characters per message. That is more than enough and no, the limit won't be raised again. These PM's take room and more important, people will just allow their PM box to fill up again. Currently there are 21 members at 60 PM's or more.
If anyone wants their PM box to be emptied in one swoop, be sure to contact me (
[email protected]).
