Right now in my display options I have only two resolutions to choose from: 800x600 and 1024x768

but sometimes I have like 10 to choose from: like 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1152xblah, 1152xblah, 1280x960, 1280x1024, 1600x1200.

It seems random whether or not I can access the higher resolutions. I have an ATI 9500 with cat 3.7 and w1zzards hacked driver and I know my max monitor res is 1280x1024 and it will work fine on that, but only at 60Hz but when I would reboot, it would default back to 800x600 sometimes and not others.

Also, I don't think my control panel install is right but I tried installing it from scratch 3 times and still on startup the folder: "C:\Program Files\ATI" opens up instead of the ati control panel going to the systray. Only when I go to display settings, advanced, does the icon go to the systray. Now I can't even hide the freqs my monitor can't handle, and I only have 2 rows of tabs instead of 3 and I know SMARTGART and more tabs are missing. I really need some help, google has no answer thus far. I am fairly stumped. Any help greatly appreciated.

I suggest you do a full install of the standard stock ATI drivers. Try to stabalize your system with those first, then you can overclock.

tried reinstalling the 3.7's same thing happens.. I uninstalled all my display drivers, now I can't install any catalysts anymore, I just have 'video controller' and 'video controller (vga compatible)' and both can't find any drivers... I'm so lost it's not even funny. Why do they have to make this driver stuff so ridiculously impossible to figure out :(
