KBToys has been slapped with a class action lawsuit, and as a proposed settlement, KBToys will be giving out a 30% discount on 'qualifying' purchases over $30 at the register from Oct. 8-14. Keep in mind that this is a proposed settlement and has not been set in stone yet. If this comes forth, expect some hot deals from this settlement (GBA SP - $70, GameCube - $70, etc)...XMas in October!

Thanks GameDiva for the info!

Yummy....PS2 for less than $150. That's a deal if it's true.

Confirmed on their website

http://www.kbtoys.com/help/legalnotice.html?place=bfnt

It's one of the links at the very bottom of their website. There might be some conditions but who knows what those will be. I think it might be stackable if they had any planned promotions during the same time period...too much legal mumbo jumbo. Where's our resident lawyer to be? Whitak?

i hope they don't exclude video games consoles.

It seems like it won't be advertised, but on the flip side it seems like no purchase is restricted.

They'll almost certainly pull their stock of consoles and console games off the shelves and store it in the stock room for the duration of the week. Either that, or they'll just refuse to apply the discount to consoles.

i dont think they can exclude video games. i'm not a lawyer or anything, but i think the settlement was like..$3 mil...meaning they have to discount $3 million's worth within the time frame? so i think video games consoles will be included...i think the more important thing is the limited quantity they have in hand, so everyone get their video games early!

I don't think the 30% off applies to Kbtoys.com, just the regular KB Toy stores. This is taken from the website:

Defendants will distribute the Net Settlement Fund by providing a discount at the cash registers of all KB Toys, KB Toy Works, KB Toy Outlet, Toy Liquidator and KB Toys Express stores nationwide, including Guam and Puerto Rico, equal to 30% off all qualifying purchases of $30 or more during October 8-14, 2003. This distribution (the "In-store Distribution") will be done without requiring a request of any store customer and will be separate and apart from, and in addition to, any previously planned promotional events for 2003. Defendants will not advertise or otherwise promote the distribution in advance of the In-store Distribution. Signs detailing the terms of the In-store Distribution, however, may be displayed in or around the stores during the In-store Distribution and up to 48 hours in advance of the In-store Distribution.

The "sale" (term used loosely) kind of has to include video game stuff, because aside from video games it's pretty hard to drop $30 at a KB Toys. What, am I going to buy a bunch of Spider-man action figures or something? </sarcasm> The whole "limited to stock on hand" thing concerns me, because they could purposely stock very few video games and consoles, but that'd be pretty shady. It seems that doing so would defeat the whole purpose of the lawsuit.

Checking the who is on register dot com, http://www.kbtoys.com/ is registered by KBHoldings Inc. Theoretically (possibly legally) that sale will have to be conducted on the website as well.

Bad news -- I spoke to managers at 2 different KBtoys in my area. They said there are signs all over the store that exclude certain toys - from what they said, basically it's electronics. They said specifically said game consoles and games are NOT included! Also they answered the phone with something about 30/30. I asked about the sale that is on Wed and they said actually, it started today 10/6. It figures they would put that kind of restriction on electronics. I guess they can skirt the law suit to their advantage!

That sucks that video games won't count. Thanks for going to the KB Toy stores around your area and checking it out for us. Now I don't have to go and find out for myself. ;)

aww, are you serious? still need 2 more controllers for my xbox. it's official, i hate kbtoys. they can't even do a lawsuit/forced-sale properly. it's pretty ridiculous that they can exclude their high-end merchandise (read: video games) and only discount the cheap stuff that nobody buys $30 of anyway.

This is a lovely way for KB to get 70% back on sales of crap they have a hard time selling anyway.

KBtoys must have a brilliant attorney to get the "all items in the store exect video games..." line added to the jugdement. That guy is worth every cent they paid him.

Maybe it's a good time to stock up on things for power-outages... like... board games.

I was at KB Toys today and bought some Gamecube games and got the 30% discount. I also had other items and the discount was taken off of EVERYTHING! All I can say is, go try your local store and see what happens. If it works, it's worth it! :D

I went to a KB Toys just north of San Francisco. I bought some Mario-type Gamecube games for my boys and had no problem getting the discount!

I went to San Mateo, Hillsdale shopping mall, south of SF. No luck, lady told me video games didn't get the discount.
