I just returned from the World Premiere of Jack Black's new movie "School of Rock" The premiere was held at the Arclight Theatres in Hollywood and there were 2 screenings showing at once. The primary screening was in the Cineramadome for all the "A-list" celebrities and the press. No, i was not in that crowd, unfortunately. The 2nd show was in one of the main theatres for us, the fans.
For those of you who don't know who Jack Black is, he played Oggy in the movie "Airborne" I'm sure many of you are asking, what movie was that? Come on! That was such an early 90s movie with some dude who ends up moving from the beaches of Los Angeles to the 'burbs of Cincinnatti. They get into hockey and rollerblading and race down hills and stuff! Duh!
I would sit here and explain the plot, but that would be boring. So, for more info on the movie itself, go here:
http://imdb.com/title/tt0332379/
On to the vivid detailing of the gratuitous sex scenes, profane language and avid drug use.....If you want to see that, just watch anything on Skinemax.
"School of Rock" was Jack Black in the flesh. Though his weird antics and charisma have graced the screen in movies like "High Fidelity," "Orange County," and "Shallow Hal" he was given the opportunity to truly be his crazy fun self. Despite his leading role, the children who co-star in "School of Rock" deserve a round of applause for their excellent supporting roles. And not only did they do a great job with the acting, they did an amazing job actually playing the instruments and singing the music. Obviously the music itself was mastered in a studio, but it's safe to say that the original music that was performed in the movie was actually played by the children. If you don't believe me, watch the drummer and the guitar player in the movie. It's quite impressive what these kids can do.
All in all the movie was very entertaining. I would recommend seeing it with a group of friends as it makes the movie that much more enjoyable. If you're going to see this movie because you think it's a musical, then go to Blockbuster and rent "Moulin Rouge" or "Chicago." If you're going to see "School of Rock" because you want to STICK IT TO THE MAN, then get your **** in gear and haul ass to the closest theatre on opening day.
