Yes the playoffs are starting on Tuesday so I'm happy about that, but for those of us whose teams = the sux0r the baseball season is officially over. My Padres ended their dismal yet entertaining season today in a 10-8 loss to the Cockies, as well as playing their last game at Qualcomm Stadium. I was at the game today and all the old school players from yesteryear(Tony Gwynn, Ozzie Smith, Ken Caminiti, etc.) showed up to pay their respects. It was an emotional moment, and I was glad to be there.

I am sad that the season is over because I watched almost every game even though the Padres playoff run was over in the first couple of weeks. However I am glad that next year the Pads will have a new stadium, and a new budget that will allow us to hopefully be competitive. If the team carries the heart that they've had all these years to the new stadium, I'm sure it will be an incredibly exciting new place to play. As for the old stadium, well, I will always remember and cherish the moments I experienced at San Diego Jack Murphy stadium.

 To the future of Padres baseball.

*sniff* I'll miss Bob Murphy :(

Bob Murphy, a Hall of Fame broadcaster who has been with the Mets since the team started play in 1962, was honored in a ceremony at home plate before the game, his final scheduled night in the announcing booth.

this season was his last...just like the ballpark.

I'll miss ya Murph....

too bad all these old baseball players turned announcers kinda suck (ahem tom seaver ahem). We'll have to see who's the new guy at the FAN.

Another person bummed at that game was the Rockies Todd Helton. He came to the plate in the eighth inning needing one hit to clinch the batting title- and the Padres delibertly walked him. It wasn't to deny him the title, but just to get to the next batter.

Sucks that happened. But the Padres manager said after the game that had they known the situation (that that at bat would decide the batting title), then they would have pitched to him.

Two 1998 World Series Games. Great memories.
