dr. strangelove
soylent green (just bought it today, never seen it)
reefer madness
1984
crap like that. any ideas?

well, i'd read some stuff about soylent green and it sounded like i'd like it. i couldn't find it to rent, so i bought it. the only other one i've not seen is 1984. the rest are good movies (with the possible exception of the 2nd planet of the apes)

theres that one modern version of Lord of the Flies. I dunno if it's on DVD though...
how about AI or Minority Report? (if you're a Spielberg fan)
you should get the Twilight Zone series. I think they're on DVD as well.

oh yeah, Brazil, good call  (i love that movie, btw).
hmm...
maybe Dark City?
City of Lost Children?
if you're into french new wave, maybe Godard's Alphaville?
i'm sure there's more, but i keep thinking of books and stories i have read, not films... but yeah, definitely Brazil. :D

Logan's Run is the most similar to the first movies you listed. It is also quite good.

I think Full Metal Jacket is only available in full screen. I would rather have the movie in the wide screen format.

"2001" & "Sparticus" are the only two films shot in a widescreen ratio. And, if my memory serves me correctly, "The Shinning", "Full Metal" Jacket" and "Eyes Wide Shut" are exactly 1.33:1.

Dang, all my suggestions were already made - Brazil, Blade Runner, Dark City.

Another vote for Bladerunner and Brazil. Might also try RepoMan (if you can find it) and some Mad Max. Unfortunately you won't be able to find Max Headroom anywhere- great technological satire TV show from the 80s. The pilot was available on VHS. The original Terminator would probably fit in. Not as dark but lots of fun are Buckaroo Bonzai and the Fifth Element. Check out Farenheit 451 also.

Donnie Darko is another good one.

Maybe check out the Twin Peaks pilot episode, the first season on DVD and the second season on VHS, along with "Fire Walk With Me" on DVD. I know it's not too similar to the other movies mentioned as far as genre goes, but Twin Peaks is definitely a mind-bending series.
