Ice Cube Replaces Vin Diesel in XXX Sequel
Source: Variety Thursday, October 2, 2003

Ice Cube will replace Vin Diesel in the Revolution sequel to its action franchise XXX, to be directed by Lee Tamahori (Die Another Day).

Originally envisioned as a franchise to star Diesel, Cube will step in to play a new character who is recruited by the National Security Agency to become a XXX agent. The XXX name refers to a three-strikes rule the NSA employs to give criminals the option of joining the crime-fighting force or going to prison.

Tamahori will direct the new adventure, which will be largely set in Washington D.C. and emphasize thriller elements over the first's extreme sports action. He will helm from a script by Simon Kinberg (Mr. and Mrs. Smith). Revolution plans to begin shooting next summer for a 2005 release.

Vin Diesel next stars in The Chronicles of Riddick, Universal's followup to Pitch Black, and did not want to film two sequels back-to-back.

Diesel will instead star in Hannibal for Revolution. Written by Gladiator screenwriter David Franzoni, the film follows the exploits of the 3rd century B.C. Carthaginian general who rode an elephant across the Alps to attack Rome.

How strange. He already dropped 2fast2furious. Any other person would have milked these franchises for all they're worth!

Vin Diesel doesn't want to be type-casted into those sorts of roles anymore. He wants to be considered a "serious" actor... :2far:

or at least drop pitch black 2, and milk either 2fast or 3x. that would have been the smart thing to do.

And to that I'll say Friday & Boyz in the Hood. When done right Ice Cube can be pretty good.

That was a great movie - mostly because Vin Diesel wasn't a big name at the time he made it, and his character was a bit subtle (compared to his other movies!). I'm hoping that they don't screw up the sequel by making him the focal point of the movie, but based on his other work I don't see that happening.

uhh...the name of the movie is the chronicles of RIDDICK
so i think he's pretty much gonna be the focal point.

Breakin' out the shovel... since this is an old topic/old movie.

I finally got around to seein' this movie this past week... all in all, it was pretty entertaining (of course you have to turn off your brain when you watch flicks like this. No point lookin' for plot holes here. :heh: )

Well anyways... Ice Cube did come off pretty convincingly as "XXX". I even thought it funny that they showed some of his old "NWA" pics when they were talkin' about his childhood and how he grew up.

Gotta love the dollar movies... with babies crying, cell phones ringin'... and people talkin' to the screen. :heh:

HAHA, this was being filmed behind my place. My girl saw S. Jackson while walking by the trailers.

Heh... it's a cultural experience.

But honestly... it was more funny to me when I was a teenager. Now... I just wanna watch the show without the audience participation factor.

Funniest thing that happened... this dude in the back row fell asleep during the movie and was snoring.. VERY LOUDLY!!! OH... I so wanted to go back there and wake his @ss up. Of course the noise from him nicely mixed in from the lady with her 3 kids (one being a baby) up in a Rated R movie.

PUH-LEEEZE... take your crying baby out into the lobby and give him some milk (or a breast) or something. GEEEZ!!!
