Is there a way so the program won't take that much cpu space...
even with amd 2000+xp i feel its laggy

Seriously, if you have it monitor system health (superfluous IMHO), it may be checking the disk health when you are using the comp. This tends to slow everything down, especially if Norton AV scans files for virii at the same time.

how do i disable it, and only have it run when i want it to?
seems like it does the full monitering automatically

It's in the options to "start with windows startup" Uncheck the box.

A suggestion on Norton tools -

My expereince has been that NAV & personal firewall are good products & I've never had a problem running them.

However, all of the system monitoring & diagnostics tools are a pain in the a**, as useful as they are. My suggestion is that if you need to run one of these tools, don't install it on your PC - just run it from the CD. If you surf around in the CD, you can pretty easily pick out the tools that you're looking for, and most will run with no problem from the CD.

If you already have Norton Utilities installed, your first step should be to uninstall it. Some of the crap that they load up on your machine is worse than spyware, IMHO. If you want to keep it handy, just copy the CD to your HD & run it from there.
