Was Tiger Trying to Help?
Oct 9, 9:23 EST

Associated Press

The tiger that injured Roy Horn of the duo "Siegfried & Roy" had been trying to help the illusionist after he slipped and accidentally harmed him by using too much force, says Horn's partner, Siegfried Fischbacher.

"A cat is a tiger and when he wants to protect his pal he does it the way a tiger does, with his strength," Fischbacher said in an interview broadcast Thursday on ABC's "Good Morning America." "But we are human; we are a little more fragile."

"The cat realized there was something wrong," he said. "Roy slipped, I run after, all my animal handlers run after, so he was just confused."

Fischbacher said Wednesday on CNN's "Larry King Live" that he had been standing backstage when Horn was wounded by the Royal White tiger named Montecore.

The illusionist tripped and the tiger lunged, grabbing Horn's arm, Fischbacher said. After Horn tried to free himself by hitting the tiger on the head with a microphone, the 600-pound animal took hold of his neck and then dragged him offstage. Show workers set off fire extinguishers backstage to distract the tiger, which then scurried to his cage.

Fischbacher said the tiger didn't intend to kill Horn. If that was the case, he said, "I wouldn't be here, Roy wouldn't be here."

According to Fischbacher, Horn muttered after the attack: "Don't harm the cat."

That's a nice Disney-esque story if it's true that the tiger was trying to help him, but if that's the case why did Roy hit it with the mic? That's no way to thank a "pal" for "helping" you. The microphone beating (if you can call it that) also seems inconsistent with his alleged statement afterwards.

That's crap. There are experts all over saying it was not trying to help him. Plus interviews with witnesses that were there, saying the tiger reached out and physically knocked him down before grabbing onto his neck with his mouth.

I wouldn't get near a tiger in the wild.

I like the real kicker.

They are saying he is giving the "V" sign with his fingers, communicating (non verbally) that he has sat up in a chair, that he has had one stroke (on Monday).

Friend works at the hospital...

He has had a stroke on SATURDAY the day after he arrived which they were waiting for (he lost so much blood they were prepared for clotting), in a coma that he hasn't awaken from and he has had three surgeries. One of the surgeries they removed part of his right brain, they do not know the extent of the paralisys. And I don't remember what she called it, but the connection between the two lobes of the brain, well, it isn't there anymore.

The big flag in his record is AIDS. A lot of caution around him in the first few hours and even now when it comes to infections to him.

If they had taken him to the closest hosptial, Sunrise, he would have died. They do not have surgeons qualified enough to have saved him on duty 24 hrs. The attack happened at 20 after, fire dept. was the first on the scene. Paramedics arrived and started the transport at 28 after. He was in his first surgery at 45 after.

PETA was protesting in front of Mirage today. It's not like Roy tried to kill the tiger.

Yeah, but by not allowing the tiger to eat him... the tiger had to go hungry that night.

And I don't remember what she called it, but the connection between the two lobes of the brain, well, it isn't there anymore.

Or for the cruelty of blasting a poor defenseless tiger with fire extinguishers. :hihi:
