Subject: xxxxx's Anarchy Picnic Sunday beginning 2pm till the Man gets off my back!

The man represses the people. The man wants money. The man is greedy.
**** the man! Anarchy!

I want to bring attention to myself so that everyone knows about the greed of the man.

I have more than one car because they are junky. For example the car I have has a weak oil pump which will cause it to die within a year. It is too expensive to fix but drivable. Therefore I keep a backup car for the inevitable. When the car I drive dies I call a tow truck to junk it and jump into the next car, registering and insuring it at that time. I keep my back ups in my driveway behind my house. These cars are cheap < $200. In fact registering them all will cost more than it did to buy them!

You would think this is within my freedom, as an American. It's my
driveway and this is a free country, right? Wrong! The city has
trespassed all over my property including behind my house to look at my cars. They want to tow them. Their reason? They are not registered.

Registering would not be a problem if it was $10 each. However
registration is $168 (title and registration). This price is high, but it includes taxes for paying for roads etc, so I understand. But to register cars in my driveway, which do not touch any roads is ridiculous. It is all about money, greed, especially against those who do not have money to drive a good one. Furthermore it is my driveway! Why do I pay taxes on the driveway if I can't have my own property on it? I offered the city to cover the cars, but they refuse!

The city has enough resources to be concerned about my cars yet when my lawnmower was stolen by a guy that I hired, and paid with a check which he cashed and so I had his name, the police didn't feel it was worth their time to take finger prints or try to get witnesses. I had the serial number of the lawnmower etc. They simply dismissed it and never even bothered to get back to me about it. After the theft of the lawnmower, when I had my bicycle stolen from my driveway, I didn't even bother with the police. I would understand about the city, the police having better things to do, but not if they have the resources to harass me about my cars.

I want everyone to know about this situation. The city presumably has
these ordinances to make it look 'prettier' (though my cars do not stick out from the front of the house), to increase the land values and make the city more money. Well I want the opposite to happen. I want to reduce the land values and embarrass the city for its greed, and lack of follow though on real law offenders and maybe change the law. I want to post up signs, call the newspaper and let everyone know.

This is where you come in. I want you to make my yard ugly, but with a caveat. Anything that is done must be 1. Within city ordinance, 2. Easily removable.
Some ideas are: writing "Urbana sucks in Christmas lights", gluing
together recyclables and calling it art, posting 20 no trespassing signs, Easter lawn ornaments. Use your imagination, creativity, and come to xxxx W. Hill in Urbana (between Lincoln and Goodwin) this Sunday 10/11.

They might take my cars from my driveway, but it will cost them in
embarrassment. **** the Man! and lets have some fun.

The following is a link to city ordinances. If possible please double
check your idea with the code before you implement it!

welfare-i know that here in New York-you cannot have unlicensed cars in your driveway-UNLESS hey have a for sale sign on them...every winter when my son takes his car off the road-he slaps the for sale sign on it and no one bothers him..and i have screwball neighbors that LOVE to mind everyone's business..they call code all the time because of his car-one time they came over and asked how much he wanted for it-(it had no price, nor a phone number to call)..and he said..89,000 DOLLARS. he has a right to ask what he wants for the car-lol..you should call your local code office and tell them you want to sell the car and see if they allow you to have it in your driveway with a for sale sign like they do here in new york.

so, I'm trying to find in the city ordinances where they require cars to be registered...

shrug.

but yeah...

I'm looking at the fence part, and I figure you might be able to build a weird fence that might spell things out......shrug

but i like the for sale signs

make it like you're complying with the city...park all the cars across the front lawn with forsale signs.

Yeah that might work, if he had like 2 or 3 cars, but if he has too many, then he starts looking like a dealer or a car salesman. I think you can only try to sell like 5 cars under your name in a year or something, or maybe it's that you can only make 5 sales a year, but maybe there is no limit to how many you can post for sale.... I don't really know the details behind that one, but it is a law of some kind...

I think that there's some other ordinance against that (in some cities anyway). Like you can't have for sale signs on your cars in certain places. It's mostly to prevent people from running a used car dealership from the streetside. Just something you might want to look into before you take that course of action.

this is just a guy i know... and he only owns two at a time, parked neatly in his driveway. he sent pics, i just dint bother to post em... very, very inoffensive cars that just happen to not be registered, and he'd have one at a time "for sale."

This is exactly why we moved out to the middle of nowhere.

I was actually bored enough to peruse the Urbana city code. What a crappy city government! According to the code, any vehicle that does not display proper registration is considered an inoperable vehicle. It says they have to be in an enclosed building, or moved within 15 days. I see no "for sale" loophole or anything similar.

Maybe if he invested in a car cover. Then nobody would know.

yep... it is one half of the urbana-champaign twin cities, housing a university with 30,000 undergrads... and urbana city govt is dedicated to being as inhospitable to students as possible to keep em all over in champaign... works out nicely for those of us who are raising kids in urbana, no frat boys puking on our lawn at 3 am... you can see where you cross teh line from champaign to urbana, suddenly there's no trash in the streets, no couches moldering on front porches, no drunks acting stupid because they think they're funny... but their draconian measures can be a pain sometimes...
