i'm sitting here watching the cubs absolutely fall apart! first, the fan reaches out and snags the fly ball. and then the infielder muffs a possible double play. and then bam, 8 runs in. phuk me!

Right now I feel embarassed to be a Cubs fan for life...you see...most of these "cubs fans" that you see at the game are just yuppies from the north side that go to the games to get drunk afterwards in wrigleyville...I think it's amazing how many "cub fans" just appeared once they made the playoffs too...I hope that guy doesn't make it ouf of there without harm, seriously. That's the second time this series that a cubs fan has caused a borderline out of play ball to not be caught. It makes us look worse than Yankee fans...I hate to say it.

hold on dude....while it would have been nice if he hadn't done it, he didn't reach out into the field of play. what he did was legal, that's why the ump didn't call fan interference, and security didn't kick him out. them effed up a double play the next batter and let a bunch more runs through. that poor fan will never live it down if they lose the next game. i'm sure i would have done the same thing. i'm sitting in foul territy, the ball's coming toward me, i'm gonna reach for it.

sigh....effing goat.

hehe, not to rub it in or anything, but damn, that one fan that reached for the ball just might have cost the Cubs the trip to the world series. Announcer said that the fan was actually escorted out by stadium security in order to prevent anything "bad" from happening.

Again, I'm impartial to either teams, since I'm a Padres fan. Go "Pods"! (who shall soon take up residence in the new Petco Park. boo yah!) :D

Look on the front page of any major sports site. There's his face. He should probably plan on moving to Miami.

As a true Cubs fan, I'll be wearing my hat tommorrow. Boy, am I going to hear it....

i think it was questionable whether it was a case of fan interference. obviously, the umps can't see everything -- i think it was a borderline call, and the camera angles (at least the ones i saw) are not sufficient to tell whether alou's glove was reaching over the wall or not.

regardless, it was a majorly bad break for the cubbies. while cheapbastard is right -- they did make some other bad mistakes/poor decisions that contributed to the run, it wouldn't have started if the fans had kept their hands away and let the outfielder make a play for the ball.

not that it's outside of their rights to do so (assuming that the ump's call was correct and it was not interference). but hell, they are cubs fans, wouldn't they want their guy to catch the ball and make the out?

:neartears I love you man.

No big deal. If the Marlins can beat Kerry Wood in Game 7, then they deserve to be in the World Series. My money is still on the Cubs.

I thought the Cubs are going to win this game but couples of bad plays killed them in the 8th. I shouldn't jinx the Cubs by supporting them.

its not his fault, hell alou might not have made the play.

their pitching sucked and they didnt turn that double play.

i heard they are setting up both counciling and suiside watch services for both cubs and red sox fans ;)

Alou certainly thought he had a play on the ball. c/o espn.com: "I timed it perfectly, I jumped perfectly," Alou said. "I'm almost 100 percent that I had a clean shot to catch the ball. All of a sudden, there's a hand on my glove." Hard to argue with this picture...

i don't blame him. these are his home fans -- they're supposed to be helping him, not ****ing with him. if it had been in florida, the fans SHOULD try to keep the ball away from a cubs player. that's part of the homefield advantage.

2nd Corking Scandal Rocks Cubs in Loss to Marlins
(2003-10-15)
For the second time this season a corking scandal has rocked the Chicago Cubs in the wake of their improbable 8-3 loss last night to
the Florida Marlins. This time a fan is the target of the investigation.

An unidentified Cubs fan, who snatched a foul ball away from the outstretched glove of Chicago left-fielder Moises Alou, is under investigation for allegedly having a head full of cork. The foiled foul catch marked a turning point in the game, which the Cubs had led 3-0 to that point. They were just five outs away from the World Series.

"No one with a brain in his head would cheat his own team from making an out," said an unnamed spokesman for Major League Baseball. "We suspect that most, or all of the fan's cranium has been hollowed out and filled with cork."

Earlier this year, Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa was suspended for using a cork-filled baseball bat. One expert said that cork-filled crania are a growing problem among baseball fans, but this is the first time during the 2003 post-season that the epidemic has affected the outcome of a game.

"Fans like the cork because it makes their heads lighter, and leaves
them untroubled by thoughts of personal responsibility," said the expert.

Numerous physicians, who are Cubs fans, have offered to remove the cork from the unidentified man's head, possibly through his nostrils.
