(this is an email from my mom. note all the ****s and you will see where i get it from...)
Just wanted to make you aware of the new 'scam', not sure if it is designed to get around the Federal 'NO CALL' list or just a pure credit card scam....but I'm not amused!
had a call last week, guy left a name, company name & telephone number on the answering machine. he phoned to say that an order had been placed by 'Linda' using a credit card. lately, his company had quite a few orders that had been placed using stolen credit cards, mine had been flagged as possibly being one of those. further, when we called, he would give us the credit card number used. I didn't call. my first reaction was '****, this is great', but after thinking about it for a minute...if something gets billed to my credit card - i will dispute it through the credit card company. So, i went online to check out this company (MyRX). then i was really pissed...this company sells penis enlarging products. So (after ranting to Alyssa) I went online to report it to the Better Business Bureau. They of course wanted a city, state & zip for the company (they are really designed to dispute a business transaction-but i was pissed and wanted someone official to do something about this). Went online using the telephone area code, found the city, then looked up the zip and filed my complaint.
Ok - so I move on. This afternoon there were 2 messages on the answering machine from Dawn with CDG in Chicao and her toll free ****ing phone number-regarding an order that I supposedly placed. I ignored the first & 2nd request to return her call. I looked up CDG online-a computer service company. (at least a step up from penis enlarging services/drugs) Once again, I check my citibank online - no problems there; registered the visa which I seldomly use - and checked that account - no problems there. But while I'm checking e-mail the phone rings. Guess who! ****ing Dawn with CDG. She asked if I got her message, I told her that I got both of her messages and I don't know who she or the company is. She says, we are a computer services company. She then tells me that they received an order in my name and wanted to 'check on it'. So, I decided to 'play' for a little while. I asked what 'ship to address' - she says, Naperville; I asked under what name - she says Mousafah Ali. So, I said ' obviously that has nothing to do with me' she proceeds to say, well that's why I called and asked you to phone me- I interrupted and said, 'look if something gets billed to my credit card that's not mine, i will dispute through my credit card company. She then says, 'oh, no, no - that's why I'm calling to prevent that from happening, it's a service we offer .....that's when I got pissed I said 'it's not my ****ing order, so leave me the **** alone-i don't need your ****ing service.' then i hung up.
This is ridiculous--I think it is a way to get you to phone them so they can get around the 'do not call list'. The rule is that they get to phone their customers. So, I think once you place the call, they have a record of you phoning them; thereby placing you on their customer list. I have to figure out who to report this **** to.
If you figure it out let me know.
I am more than offended!
(so, who do i tell her to report it to now? the fcc?)
