Damn, I was hoping it would drop below $40, but I'm not sure if that is going to happen. :(

Big The Adventures of Indiana Jones First Day Sales
Source: Reuters Thursday, October 23, 2003

"The Adventures of Indiana Jones - The Complete DVD Movie Collection" (buy here) appears to be on the road to becoming the best-selling box set of a catalogue film franchise in DVD history. It sold about 600,000 copies in the U.S on Tuesday during its first day in retail release.

Considering the average $46 price tag at most online shops and at brick-and-mortar stores, total consumer spending on the four-disc box set is estimated to have generated upwards of $28 million within the first 24 hours on store shelves.

In the home video sales cycle, Day 1 sales and first-weekend sales usually determine how well a DVD release will perform over its retail lifetime. With collectable multidisc box sets, however, that theory doesn't always play out like a single title release would.

That quote is pretty true.

Part of my job is to give our motion picture group an estimate of how well we think a DVD will sell once it hits the retail market. We already have financial models in place where all we would do is plug in a low, medium and high box office estimate and it will shoot out calculations for retail estimates. I am in accordance with that quote since all of our estimates are based on a single title, not a box set.

To be honest with you, I am not sure who in my company estimates box set releases...I wouldn't be surprised if there was no estimate.

That won't happen while George Lucas is still alive. Whoever inherits the full rights when he dies MAY do it though...

what's wrong with the Special Editions? I'll take SE over the old school originals anyday.

Nothing is wrong with them, I love the Special Editions, but I saw those in High School. THe Star Wars I fell in love with and sparked my imagination were the original three releases. Hell the additions to the special additions ruled.

I guess for die hard fans it is the nolstalga (sp?) yes my spelling sucks right now :P

That is why the India Jones trilogy sold a ton... that feel good feeling or something
