the gf and i want to go on a cruise. but i know nothing about it.
has anyone gone on one that can recommend anything?
we were looking at cancun, but i heard it's a bit overrated, and overpriced.
I've been on many cruises. It really depends on how much time you want to spend and where in the world you would like to travel.
I would NOT recommend taking a cruise to Cancun since you could save a whole lot more money by just flying to Cancun and spending a week there. If you and your girlfriend are party animals, then go Cancun.
When do you plan on taking this cruise?
What is your budget, per person?
How many days?
What locations would be ideal?

around jan feb of next year.
about $800/person
3-5 days
any locations would be fine. we really just want some time to ourselves, and get away from here. i only suggested cancun b/c i've always wanted to go there since high school.
my gf and i aren't big party animals, so cancun is not a must, but just some place where we can relax and enjoy ourselves.
thanx to all in advance

I've been on a few, and I'd recommend looking at the smaller lines - I went on a Carnival cruise, and there were too dang many people on the ship.
I also went on the Celebrity line, and although the ship was older, the food was MUCH better and there weren't nearly as many people crammed in there.
I'd love to cruise to Alaska someday!

My boss just got back from a short one, and it was only $319/person if you shared a room. You might incur other expenses though.
OH, I DO!!!
they involve getting on a boat and going somewhere :P

i did that this past march. 11 days, many days just on the boat. Felt the stops in each city were too short. But glaciers, landscape, and smaller cities were so beutiful. Mostly older folks and families on the cruise. Nothing like a cruise to Mexico
I'd like to do some fishing and backcountry stuff, so maybe a cruise wouldn't be the way to go.
On the other hand, I'm an older folk with a family....;)

went this year 7 days West carribean on Royal Carribean cruises
Went on Voyager of the seas
paid 740 per person i believe plus air fair plus various activities and excursions at the ports.
sooo much fun, food is included but the drinks aren't so we smuggled a lot of alchohol in, so we didn't have to pay those outrageous prices.

If you want to go somewhere in January/February, I would look into the Carribean. Obviously Alaska would be an awful trip because of the weather, but if you head south to Mexico or the Carribean you may get some great weather.
$800/person COULD be pushing it since you would have to purchase airfare from Cali out to Florida (most likely your port of embarcation).
There are many 5 day Carribean cruises and there are also cruises that just go to the Bahamas. Either way, I really think the Carribean may be your best bet during that time of year and with that budget.
I have taken a 3-day Mexican cruise before, and compared to the other cruises that I have been on, it was the worst.
