what does everyone think of Dr Phil?
My wife loves him.
I think is is very intelligent but can become annoyingvery quickly.

I've never watched him. I'll get back to you tomorrow with my opinion.

i'm with the official "man show" opinion on this one...
don't take relationship/sex advice from a guy you wouldn't f***.
he makes a lot of money telling neurotic, frigid pains-in-the-ass what they want to hear. more power to him for being a good bidnessman, but...

He's not a therapist, he a performer. He puts on a good show, but I have to question the people who go on air with him for 'treatment'.

Don't know much about him. I saw about five minutes of him once, and it seemed all he did was yell alot.

I completely agree with you here. I have a BA in psych and I have never heard more BS in my life. Most of the professors I studied and worked under were people who studied under Skinner and some of the better psycho therapists in the history of psychology. Most think he is a moron whos "put up or shut up" attitude is the wrong way to approach things.
You up for a beer or something next week? Start my new job on wednesday in south orlando ;).

Ever since you moved out and went to St. Joe, the gnomes left my dresser alone. Then you had to go to Atlanta and the California gnomes started coming back - until I got Lucy the weiner dog. Now they curse the "hellhound" who keeps them at bay and they are now angry at not being able to complete phase 1 here. HA HA! I have foiled the gnomes' secret plans!

He doesn't bother me. I have seen him 4 or 5 times and I have not seen anything that I disagree with him on.
He appears to preach personal responsibility and being proactive about tackling problems.
He really puts his guests in the corner and can embarass them, but that's TV.

yeah, i shouldn't lampoon the guy too hard... when dealing with idiots who don't want to take responsibility for anything, he's got the goods... a dose of common sense at high volume with a texas accent.

Dr Phil is the master of the obvious. He makes money telling people who are too stubborn to stop and think about their 'problems' and relationships for themselves what some obvious solutions are, like "you should stop cheating on your wife", or "maybe if you didn't eat 10 big macs a day, you'd have better luck losing weight"... (those aren't actual Dr Phil quotes but that's what he sounds like). I suppose that if he is the only person some of these people will listen to then I can't help but say that he does a good job of being the master of the obvious. I really haven't seen too many of his shows (just primarily on oprah reruns)so maybe he's pretty good at tackling bigger problems than infidelity.
