My current job sucks. Pays little, and its boring. However, I got an offer from another company, and I'm going to take it. The start date is TBD.
Problem is, I can not whatsoever motivate myself to work in the meanwhile. I just sorta sit here and stare at the monitor, and maybe check G|A every half hour.
Oh, my contract for the company that I'm working for right now is to expire in a month, but I wanna get outta here like in a week. Still need to talk to my manager...
Transitioning sucks... :(

Dont burn your bridge before the other one is built. G-d forbid something falls through, its better to have a job, even if it sucks, than no job. Just grin and bear it.
I hung onto a clerkship for SATAN (thats what I and everyone who came in contact with him called him) for a few months extra just for the money, extra legal experience (this is while I was waiting for my bar results), and until I found another job.

I've been thinking of making a move - DirecTV has an engineering position in El Segundo that is practically written for me and the stress would a lot less. My only problem is that it would be less secure from layoffs in the future because of DirecTVs ongoing "internal issues".
The company I work for now is doing ok, but there is always this spectre of layoffs hiding around the corner. Even though I know I'm essentially immune to them until they start carting away the furniture and locking the doors, it still worries me a bit. I start thinking about changing companies everytime the rumor-mill here at my office starts churning out new layoff rumors. I also start thinking about it everytime I have to put in a 70 hour week (more often now) or have to work 12 hours over Saturday night-Sunday Morning to get a maintenance window activity to work correctly.

Well, I've confirmed my new start date to be on Nov 10 and my last day at work here is this friday (tomorrow, Halloween) so I'm stoked. My new job will be cooler, will pay more and will require me to have a security clearance (therefore I can't tell any of you suckas what I'm doing, or else I'm gonna have to kill ya :P )
The only thing that sucks about it, and it really REALLY sucks, is that the job is in Anaheim, so its gonna be a HELL of a commute. Gawd, I wish I was able to work in El Segundo, that'll be ****ing awesome.

I understand where you are coming from, but frankly, it's always a possibility, regardless of the company and the economy. Plus, DTV may have 'internal issues', but I honestly believe they will be around a quite a long time. And it's always better - and hella easier - to change jobs while you are still employed. It's better to be happy then secure.
