What did you want to be when you were growing up

anyways...i was checking out nba.com, and i was thinking about how i wanted to be the first chinese player in the nba. (damn you wang zhi zhi! but i can still be the first taiwanese player...hehe)

then i was dling pix for the babes thread, and i thought about how i SHOULD have wanted to be a photographer...

so i'm curious, what did everyone want to be while they were little?

for me it was
nba player
"naval aviator" (after watching top gun)
firefighter (after watching backdraft)
magician (after watching copperfield)
actor (after watching too many movies and tv)

At a very early age, I wanted to work in Detroit designing cars. I made a portfolio during my Senior year at Drexel. General Motors looked at it and was impressed , however they told me I needed a few years of art school to refine my techniques.
I was so drained from going 5 years for engineering that I decided against it. They flew me to the Advanced Styling studio in Dearborn and then offered me a job working with the designers and the shop to figure out how the proposed designs would work in real life (bumper heights, headlight placement, etc. I was too proud to take that job and totally dropped the pursuit.
I think I could have had an impact on their designs. :(

Surgeon when I was young. Then a hit man when I was in my troubled teen years (thank god I got out of smalltown USA!). Then an armchair scientist while I was in college.


Funny story:
When I was 4 or 5, I remember watching my Dad get ready to go to work one morning. He was a support technician for IBM his whole career. I pronounced, "I want to work with computers like Daddy!"

His response, "No you don't."

25 years later, and here I am, working with computers for a living. Shoulda listened to the old man :rolleyes: ;) .

From as far back as i can remember i wanted to be a doctor. The thing is I don't think i even knew what it meant to be a doctor, it was just something i said.
When i started college i started to search around for what i was good at, and what i thought i should do. After 2 years I finally gave up and went into Computer Engineering because it was something i'm very good at, although i still can't imagine spending the rest of my life in front of a computer.
About three months ago I realized something... I enjoy doing anything i'm good at. The reason i like computers is because i'm good at it. And i COULD be a doctor because i COULD be good at it. And since then i've been more confused than ever! :D

They asked us that every year at my elementary school, and my answer changed every time. One year it was race car driver, one year it was fireman... but my favorite was in kindergarten when I said I wanted to be a policeman, because "then I could put bad guys in my truck and take them to the post office."
