i mean, in 20 more years, i'll be 42, and in 20 more, i'll be 62, and....
i mean, i've accomplished so little in my first 22 years, and after its all done, whats to point to it? to leave a legacy? Anything i can do in life is so minute compared in perspective to the world around me. When i turn (or you turn) 60 or 80 or whatever, and look back, whats gonna cross my mind? I mean i work day after day after day to make money, which i spend almost as fast as it shows up, and it seems like everyones goal is to better oneself and make more money, have more stuff, etc, but then when its all said and done, and you have all this stuff, you're too old to enjoy it.
all i can think of is maybe life is about the memories we make for ourselves along the way...

Dude. Just live your life. Revel in your experiences. Celebrate the fact that no one else will ever see the world in the way you see it; experience it in the way you experience it; know it in the way you know it. Do everything you want to do in life and completely understand and experience it from your point of view. That will never again happen, and it is something to enjoy... something that gives your life the greatest meaning it can have. The entire universe is at your fingertips... it is but a whim in this great dream that you are living. Ahh, the joys of being alive! :D

There is no point. There is no meaning. Not one that's apparent or inherent to the system that is our universe, anyway.
So you have three choices:
1. Create your own meaning, your own goals, and project your own worldview onto everything you see and do. We call this egomania.
2. Follow, like a sheep, a meaning that has been made popular by others over time. We call this religion.
3. Eschew meaning, and distrust anyone who thinks they have an answer. Oppose all efforts to bring order to life and the universe. Go punk. Live in the gutter, since its really no worse than anyplace else. Grab a sledgehammer and smash some **** up. We call this nihilism.
And there's your first lesson in Zenbooty's condensed philosophy 101. Tomorrow's lecture will be "Ethics: the good thats within us all, or just another tool the man uses to keep you down."

Turned on? no
Insprired? Maybe.
But it seems profound and well written.
Seems very true and just as disturbing
I mean if you distill the philosophy out it's almost just mathmatical.
You can:
A: Find meaning:
1. On your own.
2. From someone else.
B: Not Find meaning.
B. is a little tricky. With it you can
1. deny meaning
2. ignore your faliure

being inspired is a sort of turn on, no?

Point of life? In the end, there is no "point", but while you're living it, it's what you make of it. Drink a few beers, watch some pr0n.

so whats the point to life?
To destroy your enemies and see them driven before you
And to hear the lamentations of the women.

I am glad that God entered time and space 2000 years ago, and replaced the futility that embraces all religions with hope.
The Bible says that "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither has entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him".
It also says: "For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time and then vanishes away."
Also: "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly".

I agree. What's the point of living life when you can't go out and enjoy it?
hapoo
11-03-2003, 11:40 AM
As a matter of fact i don't think its about going out and enjoying it.
My mom told me something a couple years ago that will always stick with me. The past isn't worth ****. If you had a bad past, you'll be sad about the hardships you had to go through. If you had a good time, then you'll be sad that you can't have the same now. So just drop it and let it be.
And as for the future, well from personal experience i can tell you that it NEVER EVER turns out the way you think it will, or the way you want it to. So don't expect anything of it.
Its about living in the present and enjoying the positive of whatever is happening, no matter how good or bad the situation may seam. Its not about what happened yesterday, or what you think will happen tomorrow. Just live your life to your best ability in the present, forget the past, and don't expect anything from the future

That's just what sad people say. I'm sure some people die happy. ;)
I still think it's funny that everyone thinks their answer is better than everyone else's. What makes you so sure that you are smarter than everyone else here.

No one said their answer was smarter or that their answer was better. What i said is simply my point of view on the topic.

I know I quoted you but I was talking about you specifically. I was just trying to save people some scroll time. You are telling people how to live their life. You said people should live for the present. By that logic we might as well screw the environment and bread like a catholic. You are telling us what we should find important.
Alot of these statements are put out like "this is the answer" rather than "Hey what do you think about this answer". Maybe no one [i]said[i] their answer was better but most people think that. Otherwise it wouldn't be their opinion and they wouldn't have said it.
I'm not criticizing any of you, I just find it ironic that there can be so many different opinions and none of them obviously right.
hapoo
11-03-2003, 01:40 PM
not live for the present, live IN the present. Huge difference.
And you can't say that none of them are right. They're all right for the person who posted them and my not be right for anyone else. Its like religion. Its pointless to argue about since there is no right/wrong.

Sorry, I'm confused, what's the point of life for you?
How can there be no right and wrong? For both this and religeon. Either all the Jews are going to heaven or they are not. Judiasm is right or wrong. I don't get what you are saying. Either the point of life is to live for our children or not. There may not be a right answer but there are certainly wrong answers.

It's how the individual feels.

So your advice would be: the point of life is whatever you want it to be?
I just don't think that's true. I think some people have a much better grasp on what's important and some people are just wrong.

the point of life is not measured by what you have, or by what you accomplished, it is how you ahve made a difference by being on this planet. not in a monatary sense. helping an elderly neighbor, in my opinion, is a far better acomplishment then inventing a faster processor for a computer. its making yourself a better person by making the lives of those around you better. i am a frim believer of what goes around comes around. jsut hang tough and a deeper realization with lifes goals for you will present its self

JMO... there is no point in life. You're born, you die, and in between you make a lot of mistakes and hurt a lot of people. My goal in life is to limit the damage that I make as much as I can and hopefully die leaving as small a ripple as possible.

in between you make a lot of mistakes and hurt a lot of people? i don't see it that way. my mistakes are few because i learn from them, and i try to take hurt away not engage it.

I try to learn from my mistakes too. However, there is a lot to learn and to be honest, I've made a lot of mistakes. I'm not proud of it... it's a simple fact. Learning from your mistakes doesn't prevent the people you hurt from being hurt.
Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to the contrary, we sometimes make mistakes that we can't fix. The longer we live, the more time we have to accumulate these mistakes.

You can't say you have a goal in life but say there is no point that's a contradiction (point=goal). Also, you can't say there is no point and just be have fun (fun=point).
