Alright, this is a pretty long story, but I'll do my best to sum it up.

Ok, so I live in a dorm on campus, and theres some serious **** tards that live across the hall and one room over from me. I'm from Illinois, and go to school in Iowa...apparently these kids are all from Iowa and have something against Illinois because I duct taped an Illinois towel I got from a football game to the top of my door and one night one of them ripped it down and went and ran into the room. I watched this through the peephole, apparently the kids don't realize that I'm always up til at least 4 in the morning, and usually my door's always wide open, I just happened to have needed something from my closet which is right beside the door, so it needed to be closed for a few seconds. I also have an Iowa towel duct taped to the door which was supposed to prevent incidents like this from happeneing.

That was just the start of things. In replacement of the towel they ripped off I put up a makeshift 8.5 x 11 piece of paper that said "Illinois" on it. Of course, I hear something outside my door and go check it out....there's about four guys there writing stuff all over the piece of paper...no big deal. About an hour later one of them starts kicking my door, as if it's going to solve all his obvious problems. I contemplated seriously injuring him because by about the third time he kicked the door I was getting pretty pissed, but luckily I realized how drunk I was , and that he had 4 friends with him and they had some sort of big tree branch or stick...and unfortunately it was just me in the room.

Still, nothing too bad. About a week later same group of four or five guys comes by, so this time I make sure the door's open (they never do anything if the door's open....****ers), and one of them makes the mistake of saying something to me. His three other friends told him to just keep walking, but he was too stubborn. Nothing too violent happened, in fact, I thought I solved their problem by telling them that that Illinois towel on my door was to represent where I'm from, not the University of Illinois.

Alright, this brings us to tonight. I wasn't having a very good weekend, pretty much just drinking and watching t.v. Well, I was watching t.v with my friend when this girl that I really like finally got back to me, so I decided to go over there for a while and I told my friend he could stay in my room and watch t.v or play on my computer. So, sometime while I'm in the next dorm over hanging out with the girl, my friend decided to leave my room, and of course, he doesn't have keys, so the door wasn't locked. Also, the night before someone wrote something offensive on the kids door (the kids that ripped stuff off of my door). Obviously these kids thought I must have written the offensive thing on their door because I hang Illinois towels on my door (makes perfect sense doesn't it? :hmm: ), and they decided to go into my room and take several things and beat the **** out of stuff with their "stick" and throw the chairs around....I know this because I get an intrusive phone call from a guy in the hall telling me so. He also informed me that theres 4 of them waiting for me to get back so they can beat the **** out of me with their "stick".
Fantastic.
Not only do I get interrupted from hanging out with this awesome girl, but I have to go back to my room and fight off 4 drunk people with a stick. Why not call the R.A you may be wondering? I had my roomate (who is out of town for the weekend) call him while I went to get my R.A from last year. The r.a told my roomie that "we'll just deal with it tomorrow", great, and my R.A from last year wasn't home. Luckily, when I went back to my room, three of the kids had left to get something, so I confronted the one remaining douche and he, of course, denied going into my room and doing anything...so I let him know very firmly that if he knows what's good for him he'll stay out of my room and leave me alone. So he started being all nice and appologetic.

I go into my room to examine the damages. Thankfully, nothing of value was taken or (extremely) damaged...although, one of my guitars was knocked over, but it's a beast and will survive. They did steal some food from my room though. To be exact, they stole a box of oreo cookies, a bag of goldfish, and a big bag of chex mix....I haven't noticed anything else missing..yet, thank god too, cuz I had my digi cam, ps2, ps2 games, computer, and two guitars sitting out right in the open.

This made me furious that these punks not only don't have the balls to confront me individually and without their "stick", but found it ok to go into my room and throw stuff around. I proceeded to call my current R.A three times, and he wouldn't pick up his phone. There is going to be hell to pay tomorrow for someone.

Is what they did a punishable crime if I have two witnesses that saw them enter my room and proceed to do what they did? even though my door was not locked (my friend that left my room like that is gunna get a major bitching from me)

oh yeah, they entered my room two more times about an hour later, they thought I wasn't here...a.k.a they open my door and don't see me (when i'm at the computer i'm kind of out of site from the door) and then proceed to take several steps into my room until I become visible, then I ask what they want, who they are, etc. and they turn and leave.

GAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Maybe I'll just duct tape them into their room while they're asleep.

If you have witnesses, I definitely think that you have a case against these guys.

Also, dorms are not as safe as they may "feel". Always keep your stuff hidden away or locked up when you're not there. Keeping your door open when you are there is fine, but definitely keep it closed and locked when you are sleeping. I know that some people entered unlocked rooms at night and stole stuff right from under sleeping people's noses. It wasn't pretty.

Dude, I wouldn't bother with the R.A. I'd call the cops. These guys going into your room without permission and trashing/stealing is called Breaking and Entering followed by Petit Larcency followed by Destruction of Property and you can wrap up the charges with Menacing (for trying to intimidate you with the stick). If you're really feeling good, throw simple Harassment into it.

Call the cops.

Well, before you call the cops, you should notify your Campus Security. The police can't really do anything without Campus Security there anyway. Also, you want to make sure you know exactly what kind of charges you want to file against them.

Yup - #1 - call the cops. #2 - call campus security & tell them the cops are on the way. #3 - call the RA & let them know all of the above. Don't wait for them to get drunk & do something stupid again.

i agree. you gotta stop these guys. each event with them has been worse than the last and you don't want to see what they might do next.

Thanks guys. I talked to the R.A and he appologized for not realizing that the situation was as bad as it was when my roomate called him that night. He told me that he's filing a report with the Residence Hall directors who have the power to kick the kids out of the dorm permanently and have many other powers. He also told me if they do anything direspectful, harmful, or just annoying to me or my roomate that I should file a complaint with him just so it's something extra to put on their record and uphold my case and increase the severity of their punishment. My r.a also said that this type of situation is the kind that the Residence Hall coordinators will absolutely refuse to tolerate, not only because it's against campus dorm policies, but also against the law period. He took down me and my witnesses names and SS#'s and told us we can expect to have a meeting with the Hall coordinator within a few days to tell them exactly what happened.

I hope they get kicked out of your University Housing for good. Last year someone got kicked out of my dorm for a much lesser offense.

Good luck!

if they're making threats towards you now, they're gonna be even worse if they get kicked out of the dorms because of all this, and really really pissed. you should start protecting your physical well-being as well - pepper spray, self-defense classes, or, as le stick mentioned, a bat.

I don't know if A bat would really help. However, if he got TWO bats and a stun gun he'd be all set. He should also post a sign that by trespassing you may be killed. That's just a disclaimer to stupid criminals who walk in without his consent :)

my favorite part is that me and my 7 engineering friends lived at the end of the hall (last four rooms). They tried to charge me and my roomie for the door that was falling off the wall (several thousand... apparently fire doors are expensive, esp when it's a style not made anymore). it was clearly not our fault but a fault in the door. they kept making up wacky excuses as to why it's our fault. then we'd do some pretty calculations or what not and prove them wrong. my favorite was saying to them "ok, the only way that will break the door is if you apply over 90,000 pounds of force to it... and that's in an ideal situation."

and man, they REALLY freaked out when we wanted to record all conversations with them. We figure they won't let us have lawyers present when talking with them, then we'll record our conversations to protect us from them.

one day a friend mine had his dad over. we got to talking and i found out he was a lawyer. I had to go pick up some information from the housing peeps and asked him if he could help me by tagging along and introduce himself if asked; nothing lawyery, just tag along. they absolutly freaked when they saw a lawyer with me. we soon after got our money back and they made it clear they didn't want us back.

I'm starting to wish I had called the cops. Finaly, 10 days after the "incident" that I was assured would be investigated "promptly", I get a letter in the mail telling me I have to call and schedule an appointment with the hall coordinator lady by noon wednesday....today is wednesday and our mail doesn't come till past noon.....morons. On top of that, the lady won't see me, my roomate and witnesses at the same time...we all have to make individual appointments...so who knows when this problem will be solved, if ever. I am going to promise the lady that if these kids just get a slap on the wrist (i.e probation, which just means if they do something of this magnitude again, then they COULD get kicked out) I am going to watch the kids like hawks and report every violation until proper punishment is taken against them.

Setup and hide a webcam in your room to catch them in the act. In fact, set up multiple webcams.
