What happened to the deals page?

This used to be the place to come for deals that were hard to find or were really hot.

Now it's just Sunday paper ads restated in electronic form.

I'm so disappointed. Are there just no more freebies or great deals to be had online anymore?

if you're so disappointed you should try to do something constructive. instead of ragging on G|A, find us a good deal! show us how easy it is.

i know apex (and the rest of the crew) has put a lot of blood sweat and tears into making the site how it is today. and i appreciate it

holy crap! att! where have you been??

There are freebies to be found, none like in the "old days". Heck, it's hard to find a t-shirt anymore!

Freebies don't pay the bills.

agreed. but it's simply because companies are actually being held accountable for real profits and stockholders aren't letting them get away w/the crazy stuff they were doing.

:stupid:

sure, the deals page isn't that great anymore. but it's not apex's fault, or anyone elses. the initial internet boom is over, and people aren't giving stuff away at 60% off the lowest b&m prices for the most part.

that said, if you are looking for a particular thing (office equipment, computers/components, electronics, etc), i think you're going to find the lowest prices anywhere on the deals page. of course, i can't buy stuff anymore because i'm poor :bawl:

I personally think the deals that come up now are much higher quality than the old days. I really don't miss seeing the "Pay $2000 for a mouse then submit rebates for $2010!!" You make $10 after 6 months of rebates!!

Remember that site? :D

Whoa, $10?! I could totally use that to start paying off the loan on my last rebate mouse!

And yeah the deals these days are pretty sweet. That Dell for $200 for example... good stuff.

Huh, is it time for the quarterly bitch about the deals page meeting already? My, time flies!

:D

I think the Deals Page is better than ever.

Some people are getting spoiled by seeing 52X CDRW's for $9.99, 64 MB flash drives for $7.99, and 120 GB hard drives for $59.99 that anything which isn't free after rebate is a big disappointment.

I like the deals page most of the time, but I see att's side of it too. Sometimes there are just garbage 'deals' posted on there that really don't do anything special for me. for example, repeated reposting of "amazon goldbox, friday deals" and stuff like that, and frequent posting about lame promotions at dell, amazon, "sierra trading post" and other stuff that IMO doesn't deserve to be branded a "hot deal".

I liked the old pages a lot better.

whoah! sierra trading post rocks. plus, MANY people come here exclusively for the dell deals.

Those dell deals are love.

Remember: These guys just report the deals, they don't make them.

haha...yes att != attgig

but yeah.... what kills me are the one call deals cuz those are just HUGE purchases most of the time. I almost would never be able to make one of those purchases on a whim.

the dell deals, imo are necessary. it makes apex a bunch of money. 1-5% from dell. let's say there are about 50 purchases a month going through apex. average beeing 600 bucks (ranging from the 200 buck server - which is really 400 cuz rebates don't count on referalls to the 1600 buck laptops).... that's 30000 * .01 = $300 a month for apex. (prolly more... i believe it kicks up to 5% if you have a certain number of buys through your referall. you become like a premiere advertiser or something like that).

those dell deals make apex money. financially it makes sense for him to put a lot of those up there.

Not just financially but logically they make sense. People are always looking for computers. Lots of the regulars here aren't but people pass the site by word of mouth to friends who are looking for inexpensive computers all the time and they come here and buy them. Apex also seems to attract a handful of audiophile/videophile people so the OneCall deals make sense to me as well (I just wish I had the money to buy them! :))

/me keeps her mouth shut about how much GotApex sells from Dell. Not talking commission, just in sales. It's unbelievable...

It's a fair criticism. We've had the same issues with many companies in the past. We do listen to everyone, and try to post the deals that most people are interested in. Right now, there are a lot of people interested in low cost computer systems like Dell offers, along with LCD's, digicams, and electronics. I'm sure that'll change in the future, and we'll try to keep up each leg of the way.
