10 am the first tuesday of every month, the sirens go off. just a test. this is only a test... i should know this by now. it's happened everywhere i live cept the four years i spent in germany.

still gets my heart rate up every damn time, start thinking about ducking into the crawlspace to wait out the tornado...

I don't think I would get used to that either. Hopefully a real tornado never hits at 10 am the first Tuesday of the month!

the midwest. st louis, central illinois, southern michigan. when 20% of the people live in shacks with outhouses and no power, radio/tv warnings just don't do it... gotta get through to peeps the ole fashioned way... reeeeeal loud.

For me, when I saw "Special Report" on tv, I always freaked out thinking it was the start of WWIII and missiles were on the way.

When I'm at home....the siren is literally next door to me...about 100 feet away....talk about an alarm clock.

No tornado in California but we have to live with earthquakes. I used to live in Minnesota (1 year) but I haven't been through a tornado.

In San Francisco, we have a daily 12-noon air-raid siren going off. One is located on Cesar Chavez Street and the other is somewhere around Brannan and Fremont Streets. The siren fires for about 10 seconds then winds down. First time I heard I freaked out.

Hermosa Beach here in Los Angeles does the same thing - at noon every day the air raid siren will go off.

When I was a volunteer firefighter (soooo long ago) the air raid siren was our alarm in town - if you heard it you had to get on your radio to find out where you had to go riki-tik.

Every school that i went to... from 3rd throughout highschool had a siren right next door. Every first tuesday of the month, the thing would go off.. and it was like nothin was happening... the teacher didn't even stop for a second.. made me feel real safe.. thank god that there was never a tornado when i was in school because chances are i would have been sucked right out that window..... almost as ridicilous as the tornado drills in school.. where you duck in the hall way and everyone is quiet.. yeah.. right.. i bet that would happen if you had a bunch of 12 year old kids scared that they were gunna die.... oh well.....

Every first of the month in Hawaii those sirens go off. I always look up expecting to see Japanese airplanes.
